I have watched all the preseason and regular games in the early season so far and have to admit that I was baffled when in the preseason we saw point forward Randle, but I have been pleasantly surprised by what he is doing on the court in that role as far as penetrating and finding his teammates. He seems to be paying more attention to what he is doing, he's cut his spin move turnovers way down and really looks like a leader on this team so far. I think he has honestly been a real good cog in the change that we are seeing of this team on the court and even flirted with a triple double recently which goes to my point. He could make himself a really valuable trade piece that could net us something nice or possibly prove to be an indispensable piece if we see this team trend upwards. I guess my question is what are the thoughts on him this far un this early season?

After tonight’s game I’d max out him and every other player on the team! Seriously though, Randle has played tremendously. You don’t see him dribbling into oblivion anymore. What a difference good coaching makes!

It’s just 3 games but so far it’s night and day between Randle last year and this year. He’s in better shape so all his moves seem quicker and sharper. It’s too early to judge the numbers yet but he’s averaging 23.5 ppg and 10 rpg. And he’s shooting the ball extremely well. He started out 1-9 and ended up 8-19. And he stepped up when the Knicks needed him.
I’m impressed. 😎

I think he has bought in to our new coaching staff and got in excellent shape he's faster and playing smart,Mitch also had a very smart game two fouls only and held the dee on inside.Nice to see Frankie and Payton step up on offense.

Did anybody else notice how perfect the shooting form was on Elfrid and Frank’s 3 point shooting? If they could just repeat that form both could be real contributors. I just had a post here where I said Payton should sit. I’m not sure I feel that way now. 😎

Let's see if it's sustainable before he gets back in my good graces as a fan. But so far so good. What a difference good coaching makes.

I have never understood why there was so much talk of trading Randle. Its not like we're a juggernaut offensive team. Julius has played great in pre-season and that has carried over into the regular season. He is 26 years old. Nuff said.

I know you weren't sleep last year as Randle froze out RJ and Knox shattering whatever confidence they had. And I know you didn't miss those spins moves from hell into double and triple teams, and passes off his own leg. So just recall those things and now it clicks why most fans are skeptical of Randle, my friend. Its really not that hard but like I said he's performed well so far. Cautiously optimistic and I still don't want to resign him regardless if we make the playoffs with him or not personally. But I will root for him to do well while he's in our jersey.

I can’t help but be suspicious because he got into such great shape coincidentally in his walk year. I guess the bright side would be if they picked up his option he would be in a walk year again next year! However his improvement goes beyond that. Smarter decisions are a function of both the better coaching and his maturation as a player. As for his better shooting we noticed when the Knicks originally signed him that his shooting was improving year to year. Unfortunately he took a step back last year, but perhaps that was an outlier. And perhaps he didn’t work as hard on his shooting as he did this offseason. Whatever it was or is, it’s good to see him playing this well but let’s wait and see if it continues. Only downside to him playing this well it makes you second guess drafting his replacement with the eighth pick of the draft. It also makes him an attractive trade piece to a contender at the deadline.

Hey JB,
I am aware of Julius's spin moves and turnovers last year. However, I'm also aware he has a lot of talent, can score and now under Thibs, is a good passer and rebounder. He's also 26, so he fits the rebuild process, age-wise. While many said trade him last year, i didn't hear who we would get in return. Sometimes, we are so in patient and don't allow for a traded player or younger player a chance to acclimate.

I agree except we drafted his replacement so how do you see Randle being resigned if we need to acclimate one of the best players in college to replace him. They play the same position. And while I want Randle to win while he's in our uniform, tell me why the storied Lakers and the up and coming Pelicans didn't want him? 🤔

JB,
Many good players have been moved several times. We as fans will never know every reason why, with the exception of a player being a cancer or malcontent in the locker room, which Randle is not. As for Obi playing the same position, I am seeing more and more position-less styles, so I think they can co-exist.

On the other hand, he has played really well, solid. Shooting a high percentage, rebounding, assisting, moving the ball/facilitating. Now if he can cut down on the turnovers that'd be gravy. One of the most galling aspects of his games last season was the huge momentum-changing turnovers he committed every game. But after 3 games he is playing really well-- as to trading him I would still do it because his ceiling is 3rd option or sixth man on a title contender and I don't feel that fits our developmental arc.

I'd be more open to trading him IF I saw another knick that was better. Hopefully that time comes but it ain't here yet.
