I READ ON NBADRAFTNET UNDER DRAFT BUZZ THAT THE KNICKS HAVE OFFERED WILSON CHANDLER FOR THE 5TH PICK IN THE DRAFT. I DONT THINK I LIKE THIS TRADE. WILSON SEEMS TO BE AT LEAST A SOLID NBA PLAYER, AND COULD VERY LIKELY BE ALOT MORE. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOOT THIS RUMOR?

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT WASHINGTON OWNS THE 5TH PICK.

I'm not enamored of the deal. It's basically Chandler for Stephen Curry or Jordan Hill. All are young players but Chandler already has a NBA resume and he is cheaper than a #5 pick. One other factor is Chandler plays defense.
Pay more, get less? Sound familiar?

A rumor about the Knicks quitting on--er, I mean, trading one of their young players? If they actually went through with it, it would be par for the course

Wilson is the Knicks player who I think has the brightest future and is what I call a 5 tool player + a great attitude, to boot. Chandler is worth much more than a 5th pick in what many are calling a weak draft. I just think that NY needs to hold on to Wilson and Gallo for draft day deals. WC is a potential all-star, and, as Bill says, plays defense, which is a lost commodity in this NBA era. Once Chandler begins driving to the basket with more regularity, we are talking a bigger, smarter, and more palatable player than Latrell Sprewell was. Plus he blocks more shots than the Knicks bigs. You trade Wilson for only one reason. To get Blake Griffin.

I know where you are coming from, but we have a new management team, and Donnie Walsh as well as Mike D'Antoni, will not make the same mistakes as their ridiculous ancesters. In Donnie I trust. He also knows that this draft is not as strong as other ones, and the eye is on 2010. Chandler is locked up for a few more years and he is earning a very reasonable amount of money. I am curious as to where NY will go in this draft. I do think Mobley's contract is worth much more to a fiscally troubled team who has a top 3 pick. The Grizzlies can certainly use some salary help, and not having to pay a rookie $4,000,000 may be enough incentive, at least I hope so. I want Hasheem Thabeet or Tyreke Evans, the latter who may be there at #8. Lawson will be there, and what makes this draft so exciting is the intrigue about Rubio and the plethora of PGs, who may make teams veer away from the big man from UConn. I don't think NY can get Hasheem unless we get the second pick, and even then, the Knicks seem to only be looking at guards. Man, I cannot wait for Thursday, and hope Hubie Brown will be there, making his voice heard on the TNT stage....

I dont like this at all because unless we ar getting Caron Butler back or something what would be the point? Sending Nate Robinson for the 5th might be something I'd agreee to first but not wilson chandler. Where the heck did nbadraft.net get this from?
-Jason
P.S. If they trade chandler for the 5th pick alone we better be taking Evans or Derozan with that 8th pick because those two guys are the only ones that could mimic even part of what Wilson does defensively and offensively for that matter.

Wilson Chandler for the #5 pick doesn't make sense unless the deal is sweetened. I doubt the Wizards would part with Caron Butler (if Ernie did this he would be impaled on the Washington Monument ; ) but I would be less distressed if JaVale McGee was added to the package. He is a legit 7 footer and an athletic freak. He is raw but he blocks shots, he can run and he has some offensive game. He fills a need, far more cheaply than Marcin Gortat, and he can hit foul line jump shots.
I love Wilson but if we get LeBron James he is redundant and while he might be a good shooting guard he would need a lot of work to succeed at that position. Getting the #5 pick means a great shot at Curry and then we can add DeRozan for our SG. Now throw McGee into the mix and it means we get Curry, DeRozan and McGee for Chandler. Put another way we fill 3 pressing needs and lose a player at a position we already have filled (Harrington) for next season and a position that might be taken by the game's best player in 2010.

Actually, the draft will be on ESPN, and has been since Disney bought the rights to televise the NBA. Hubie Brown is an employee of ESPN, but don't bet on him offering analysis. Instead, we'll have to listen to Jay Bilas drool all over the kids.

i cant stand Jay Bilas he comes off as an overanalyzing tool that couldnt make it in the NBA so all he can do is make uneducated guesses of players way more talented than he ever was. Ric Bucher is another tool that ruins the draft day with his uninspiring talk of these college players and giving breaking news you already knew, two weeks ago from realgm.com

I too don't like Wilson Chandler for the #5 pick, but throw in JaVale McGee and I'd do it. So I agree with Bill on that. However, with the 5th pick, if he's still available, I then take Jordan Hill, and with the 8th pick, either Curry, Evans, Flynn, Holliday or Lawson will still be available, but Hill won't be, most likely. Now the Knicks still have the MLE available, as there will be no need for Gortat. The Knicks need Jordan Hill, if they are letting David Lee go. I also look into a sign and trade for Nate with whoever drafts Chase Budinger. Make the Washington deal and the starting Lineup looks like: McGee,Hill,Gallinari or Harrington, Hughes or Evans, and Duhon or Evans. Wilcox and Budinger off the bench, makes a 9-man rotation. At least 4 of them can play defense, with only Duhon and Gallinari, and Harrington suspect. This doesn't take into account what might be coming back for Lee. I think I'd want a 2010 pick plus, so the Knicks can draft Jerome Jordan or Cole Aldrich.

Making the Memphis deal, I would still be torn between Rubio and Thabeet, not really sold on either of them. That would be a dangerously tough choice. I'd almost want to ge with Harden of Hill at even #2. In truth, I'd rather stand pat, and take Tyreke Evans @ 8, keep David Lee, sign Gortat or someone similar, and still have Wilson Chandler on the team. I'd still rather have Evans than Curry. I want the team to improve defensively and Evans will provide that and Curry won't. Just how many more points per game can the Knicks score? Will it be worth it? I think not!

Mercury:
I don't like this trade either. I am a fan of WC and don't believe the fifth pick will be better. Supposedely the Knicks are also dangling David Lee to Portland for their pick. Walsh needs to think these potential deals through very carefully.

Some interesting points Iron...
Tyreke Evans projects to be gone by #8. We might have a shot at him with the #5 so that is a possibility. I believe Hill and Curry will be gone by #8 along with Evans. We also have to factor in what we do with Lee. I'm leaning towards the Knicks doing a sign and trade with Lee so the question is what do we get in return for Lee because certainly that could effect who we draft. Portland looks like they want Lee bad but the only available Blazer I want is Rudy Fernandez. That's our SG. Atlanta could be a player and now we are talking maybe Josh Smith. I would not be surprised to see the Lakers offer up Andrew Bynum for Lee.
There sure are a lot of "what if's" in all this and also there is the real possibility of getting the #2 pick from Memphis.
When all is said and done I am hoping for multiple Top 10 draft picks and an equitable trade for Lee with a final result of maybe adding 3 players in position of need. Hill, Evans, Curry, DeRozan and Bynum or Fernandez would suit me. I'd even take Josh Smith because Hill could play center. At this point I just want answers to the 100 or so questions I have now. I am totally convinced Donnie Walsh is playing mindgames with me specifically. ; ) I'm not paranoid either. ; )
BTW, watch. On draft night we do nothing. ; )
