Despite a disgusting loss the playoffs seem quite likely. Toronto has fallen off the face of the earth losing 9 of 10. they and the Wizards are each six games behind us. But 7th or 8th is farrrr superior to 9th or 10th. Be nice to stay in top 6.

We're likely to draft 15th. Any thoughts on these guys, Gates?? Evan Mobley – 7-0 – USC Ibou Dianko Badji – 7-1 – Senegal Alperen Sengün – 6-9 – Turkey Day’Ron Sharpe – 6-9 – UNC Kofi Cockburn – 7-0 – Illinois Charles Bassey – 6-10 – Western Kentucky (Nigeria) Ariel Hukporti – 6-11 – Germany Luka Garza – 6-11 – Iowa Sandro Mamukelashvili – 6-11 – Seton Hall (Georgia) Khalifa Diop – 6-11 – Senegal

What position do you prefer to draft for? I am thinking Center only because Mitchell Robinson seems brittle to me. Other than a center I'd like the kind of guard that plays for UCLA Tyger Campbell, even though I only saw a few minutes of him play, he seems like a guy in a similar vein to the kid out of Villanova that plays for the Mavs now, Jalen Brunson. Or a three and d guy to replace Bullock maybe?

I want to draft a 3 or a 2. We need a wing in the worst way and whether we invest in Bullock past this season or Knox they both need to come off the bench.
We still need a 2 guard who can flat shoot whether in a sixth man role or starting so we can slide RJ to the 3.
Of course we always need a point but that might be best had from a trade or free agency unless somehow we go the lottery and win it.

Both Mitchell Robinson's injuries this season were the result of bad karma and NOT as the result of some structural deficiency! That said the Knicks are still at the point of drafting the best player regardless of position. But if position was the sole criteria then PG is the choice. Cunningham and Suggs are the best choices but they will be gone. Given where they are drafting I like Tre Mann from Florida as a tall PG with upside and skills. He will be available mid first round but more than likely he'd be best taken later. With our second pick in the first round go strictly on potential. Or combine those first round picks and go for a lottery pick. It won't be a Top 5 but it should be high enough to draft a kid with serious upside. I like Kai Jones of Texas, an uber athletic center, or sweet shooting swingman Moses Moody from Arkansas. Mann could still be available with our Detroit second round pick.
Free agency could/should fill the Knicks most pressing needs. Lots of folks think a big offer could net restricted free agent PG Lonzo Ball. Not my first choice but lots of Knicks fans I trust like him and I have to admit his father is his biggest issue with me.

Yeah neither Knox nor Bullock are really starting calibre guys on a title contender, no way no how. I see RJ as the quintessential swing man-- as opposed a to a tweener. A guy who can play in the lane but also initiate and do some elbow playmaking. If he improves his power dribble, fakes, and footwork-- I think this will be crucial to his career-- we may have tolerably good version of Paul Pierce, and less-selfish from earlier on. RJ is a willing and talented passer. Paul Pierce under Doc Rivers' tutelage became a great great player-- I know he is despised on this forum but there's no denying his pedigree. RJ has a similar potential game with a bit more athletlic ability and let's not forget that Steve Nash is his godfather... maybe Nash is going to teach RJ some footwork and midrange shooting touch? All that considered... I prefer a 3 and D SF in the 6'9" small forward but one who scouts feel has the potential to develop a driving/midrange game. If we go for a point guard in the draft I hope it's a 3 or 4 year college guy who has a pass first mentality. That way Toppin has more value as an ooper and roller. You and I like Jaylen Brunson. I think Campbell out of UCLA is a similar type player, small and quicker but with similar playmaking acumen. Not saying he's going to be defensive stopper but when you have a true playmaker it enhances other players' value who may have been acquired at too high a price. So a Brunson type player can increase the value of a the Toppins and Knoxs of the league. There's a lot to be said for hitting outside shooters in their location and in rhythm.

But-- can I ask you to "handle" the father and Dolan simultaneously in that event?

I would also like a really good point guard. I have not done a deep dive on the talent this year. Normally the ACC has about 5-10 1st round quality players, but not this year. So, I have some catching up to do.
That being said, our focus needs to be on getting the best talent, not position.

As a USC fan and season ticket holder I have seen Evan Mobley play all of his games in 2021. The guy is young but has an enormous feel for the game. He is perhaps the best overall talent that has came through USC in all my years following this team.
He is a genuine 7 footer that dominates the boards at both ends. He is a super blocker and rebounder on defense, sometimes blocking the same guy that shoots, gets the rebounds and shoots for 2 or more straight times, ultimately grabbing one of the blocks.
He is not an egotist and shares the ball, passing outside the key to the perimeter wing when drawing double teams. But typically he has his hands above theirs on boards he dunks the ball. He has a good middle range game and even started shooting the 3 ball with accuracy as the season continued. He's very quick on his spins to the basket and shoots before opposing blocks are setup. And as I mentioned before he once grabbed the defensive rebound, dribbled it down court went airborne up at about the three point line and dunked it.
He just seems to be in the right spot most of the time which for a 18 year old is amazing. Some have compared him to Chris Bosh but he isn't as muscular as Bosh yet, but much more inventive and confident in his game over a young Bosh. His frame will hold about 15-20 more pounds of muscle.
To describe him- he's his own persona, a real Unicorn without the ego. IMO the best multi-talented player in the draft.

I honestly believe THIS draft might be the one for the Knicks to cash some chips on their future. With multiple first round picks, a multitude of second round picks and young talent a package might be arranged to get into the top 3 of the draft. I might dangle Mitchell Robinson as bait along with both our picks next year and both our first round picks in 2023. That's how highly I regard, Cunningham, Suggs and Mobley. All three are future stars. All three change the landscape of the team. And to be honest I don't care which kid we get.

Cunningham and Suggs ooze generational talent and RJ and Randle need a high running buddy. We had to have collected all this draft capital for a reason. Thibs is not going to play 7 new rookies in 3 years with the pics we have. I want to see what Rose and Aller and Wes can do with a big boy deal specifically when it comes to getting in the top 2-3. Can it be done remains to be seen.

Likes his teammates but not the city. He is rumored to like NYC a lot. I do think in NYC Lavar will be more likely to be old Lavar - and some of more local media scumbags will play into it.

I'm also in favor of acquiring Lonzo Ball. Ball pushes the ball, is okay at P/R, and has become a fairly reliable shooter. He also gets a lot of deflections. You get Mobley/[Robinson] and Randle up front, Barrett and Burkes as swingmen, and Ball at the point. That's a lineup that's both long and tall. Quickly as backup microwave. Nerlens Noel and Obi Toppin round out the rotation. That seems like a pretty solid team to me. Dave takes the view that you must still draft for talent. I respect his opinion but given my reservations about Robinson's durability, I'd prefer to draft for talent *with* what I perceive as need.
