Buying the pick was no great surprise.
The new name might be.....
Jack McClinton, 6'1, 185 PG/SG from Miami.
He's an average athlete, didn't really play PG for Miami (that would be Toney Douglas who is ranked considerably higher than McClinton) and by all criteria save one would be playing in Europe.
McClinton can shoot. He can shoot off the dribble, catch and shoot or hit wide open jumpers and his range is 25 feet plus. He is the ACC's all time leading shooter for a guard. In fact some pundits feel he may be a better shooter than Stephen Curry. What's more is he is a smart shooter who doesn't force shots. He takes shots he knows he can make.
Another name to throw in the hat.

Josh Heytvelt seems to be an option at 29. He is a big man with a good shot, and shot 40% from the behind the line. They say he can rebound and averaged 1.7 blocks. An athletic big man who can shoot seems to fit our system quite well. Please comment if anyone has a more indepth perspective on Heyvelt's game.

In Heytvelt I see a bigger but far less talented version of Danilo Gallinari. I am more interested in Austin Day, Heytvelt's Gonzaga teammate. His upside is far greater and his only real issue is that he is rail thin.

...and the 8th pick the Knicks could see this type of scenario.....
At 8th the Knicks could select from SG/PG Curry, PF/C Hill, SG/SF Derozan or some PG/SG/PF that slips like maybe Harden.
At the 29th there still will be PFs like Taj Gibson (likely not to be picked if the Darko deal is imminent) and a lot of PGs.
I think that the knicks get a SG or PF at 8 (Curry or Hill ) and a PG at 29. The PG is most likely.... Darren Collison.
Why Collison...hes very fast, a very good defender, is proficient at the three point shot, and excellent FG shooter and has a high ATO.
WHy has he dropped? If he came out last year he would be top 15. His decison to come back to UCLA screwed both himself and SG/PG Holliday stats wise and their coach Howland tried to satisfy each. Darren though a hated UCLAn is my pick for the surprise of the darft.
BTW Bill I wouldnt pick Daniel Hackett, though a Trojan, that high. He is one heck of a competitor though subjugating his game for the teams success. He is also a terrific in your face defnder and strong. Heck I may be talking myself into something here.

Gary
Hackett impressed the Knicks coaches during his workout and to my knowledge they never worked out Collison though you make excellent points about his game. Maybe the Knicks are not through dealing and they land a high second round pick. I would not be unhappy with Taj Gibson at #28 either.....

Hollinger of ESPN seems to think that we are targeting Toney Douglas. As an aCC guy I think Douglas is a big time stud combo guard. Douglas is a lockdown defender who is very good at handling the ball. Plus, he is a very good scorer. I can see him in a Vinnie Johnson role off the bench and having a very nice career as a 3rd guard.

Toney Douglas is a very good player playing out of position somewhat as a PG but still doing a good job. The knock on him is his athleticism. You like smallish players to be at least above average athletes or have one elite skills and Toney Douglas really isn't in either category. He does have ability and he's strong and a confident shooter who can finish and get to the foul line.

He can really prevent opposing players from getting their shots.
