Interesting deal. Not sure it puts Cleveleand over the top though. I still see a healthy Boston celtic team roughing up the Cav's. Too much Perkins, Rondo, KG for the Cav's front line.

What the Cavs need to do is sign Wally Szcerbiak, Anderson Varejao and Joe Smith now. They have a promising PF in JJ Hickson plus Gibson, West and Williams. It's enough to counter the Celtics especially in the front court. Shaq gives the Cavs an inside presence they just didn't have with Ilgaukas and he will kill you getting lobs from James or passing out of the double teams to wide open shooters. Shaq has slowed down but he still has game and has to be respected. Perkins will have his hands full with him and he clogs up the lane against KG somewhat.
Smart trade. It's a one year safe gamble to add star power to LeBron's universe and maybe get him over the top to a title.

This was a deal designed for one reason. Get LeBron to stay. Shaq had a great year on a crappy team and LeBron's plans will not change at all. Merc makes an interesting point about Shaq and Z playing on the same team. Both are elderly, but Shaq's game is predicated on power. Here is my opinion. The Cavs did a good deal. I still think a healthy Boston team can wax them on any given day.
Boston and Orlando have better centers. Still. Shaq is just another huge body who cannot stop a healthy Garnett, since KG can shoot outside of the paint. And, now, Shaqfu will experience the humiliation he caused Patrick Ewing in his ridiculous statements, as Howard is too fast and strong for Diesal, now that I have dubbed the new Cavalier, "Old Granddad"....

For the Cavs it gives them a post player and defender that can go one on one with the Magics Dwight Howard, although it makes them susceptible still to Boston's pick and roll.
Shaq has a one year deal and will play hard for a championship (he now needs to upstage Kobe with one more). He hopes to sign an 2 year deal somewhere after the next seaosn for his traveling circus.
The Cavs did the deal to please Lebron who wnted Shaq. And they get to dump Shaqs conttract after this coming season ands sets them up, if James stays, to pck up a free agent like Lebrons pal Chris Bosh.
I think its a good deal for the Cavs who alos were looking at Tyson Chandler. Lebron is a good passer and Shaq still can overpower people inside.
So Shaq moves on from The Big Aristotle to the Big Cactus to The Big Mistake by the Lake.

the key with shaq is to give him 3/4's of the season off and get him lathered into the groove for the post season.
I doubt this happens, I say Big Diesel's wheels fall off and Cleveburg falls to Boston in the post season.
Shaq retires and Lebron packs to play at MSG.
