It seems to me that the reason the Knicks want to target the #5 pick is that they want Stephen Curry. There is also a rumor that Jordan Hill might drop to the #8 pick. I am not in love with Hill as I do not think that he has a superior NBA skill. He reminds me of Chris Wilcox. Good athlete, but no real skill level that translates to the NBA.
That being said, there are rumors that the Knicks like him. So, the idea of trading for the #5 pick would be to also keep the #8 to get both Curry and Hill. That way, they have a PF to replace Lee and in Curry a combo guard to replace Nate. I strongly suspect the plan is to let both Lee and Nate go while trying to get back something for them.
Additionally, with a young corps of Gallo, Curry and Hill to put around two stud free agents in 2010, there is a nice team that Lebron can grow with. Ideally, we keep Chandler as well because he looks like he will develop into a nice rotation player who can give you 15 points and 5 boards per game. However, I do not see greatness from him.

DA
I am a little more enamored of Jordan Hill than you. I think he is more skilled than Wilcox showing a nice, well-rounded offensive game that stretches from the post to the foul line vicinity. He's athletic, a good worker and smart. I like the kid and would not be displeased at all if the Knicks drafted him.
The idea of drafting both Hill and Curry would thrill me. Both are fits for the system. Both are smart players and don't need help getting motivated. The Knicks seem enamored of Rubio, which is fine with me, but if they play their cards right they might do just as well dealing with Washington and maybe enticing them with Mobley's contract instead of our #8.

Of course, this is now all moot since the Wizards just traded the pick to Minnesota

Of course, this is now all moot since the Wizards just traded the pick to Minnesota Apparently the Wolves will keep the #5 and their #6. That makes it more difficult for NY because they covet Evans and Curry. Personally I still think the Wizards made out in this deal with Randy Foye and Mike Miller. This move puts them in playoff territory.
