Found this on RealGM:
According to a report from Yahoo-Eurosport, the Knicks will acquire Sergio Rodriguez in a draft night trade.
Sources from the Knicks say the two sides have had a deal agreed upon for almost three weeks.
Mike D'Antoni is reportedly driving the interest in the Portland point guard.

Which other names are involved in the trade?

Nobody knows which names are involved but there is no secret Portland wants a higher pick which makes me think maybe we are trading our #8 pick for Rodriguez and maybe their #24 and #33 picks.
Rodriguez is a very good passer, insanely creative in fact, and dynamite with the ball but he's not a good shooter, is not a good defender and he commits a lot of turnovers. I don't see a big upside here unless it's cost since Duhon is a free agent in 2010. In fact Sergio sounds a lot like Duhon only Chris can defend and he's a lot stronger.
Maybe this deal is why RealGM is so certain we will get a second round pick this year.

It was reported in the NY Post today(yeah I know, its Mark Berman) that the Knicks are very interested in signing Marcin Gortat of the Magic, and that the Magic will be unwilling/unable to match the MLE that the Knicks will offer for him. Being Dwight Howards "caddy" hasn't gotten him very many minutes, but what he has got have been effective, SVG says he could start on other NBA teams. Any thoughts out there? He is a a 7 foot shot blocker who can rebound. Portland will be looking to dump salary, after the Darius Miles fiasco(Memphis's signing of him cost the Trailblazer 12mil. I say make Portland pay and send us one of their big men and Rodriguez for our number 8 and Curry/Lee/Harrington/Nate/Hughes and the 2 picks. With 27 might get Budinger. Gortat, Lee, Gallinari or Chandler, Hughes or Chandler, and Rodriguez or Duhon might be competitive(5-1). Budinger and whoever is left plus another Portland player, probably off the bench, will give a glimmer of hope. Maybe they would go for #8, Hangington, Curry, DLee for Aldrich, Rodriquez and #27 and #33.

According to HoopsHype I am dead wrong on Gortat when I characterized him as "unathletic and slow". They think he is quite an athlete which certainly makes Monsieur Gortat more attractive to me as a Knick. I doubt he has Jerome James Disease and while as challenged as Jared Jefferies on offense he seems much better and a lot more physical on defense.
Part of my problem with signing him is he is caddy to Dwight Howard so he always looks ordinary when compared to Superman and then there is our record using the MLE exceptions which has been abysmal up to Chris Duhon who certainly was worth the money he got.
Back to the Portland trade to get Sergio Rodriguez I'd only consider it if they threw in Rudy Fernandez too. That kid has mad skills and could be our SG of the future. David Lee and our #8 for Rodriguez, Fernandez and Channing Frye plus their #24 and #33 picks and then sign Frye to a one year qualifying offer and let him audition for a job in an offense that should fit him a lot better than any other he has played as a pro.
With the picks the players who might be available include Damion James of Texas, Patrick Mills of St. Mary's, or the most obvious successor to David Lee...Tyler Hansbrough. With Fernandez we don't need Budinger and we could still add 2 pretty good players with those picks.
Right now it looks like Curry goes before #8 so who are we enamored of at #8 enough to keep the pick? Maybe I should wait to judge because Walsh might have dealt them a future pick or Joe Crawford in a sign and trade. ; )

Portland is in very good cap shape ( losing Raef and Francis drops them 30 mil this year). they will have major cap space in 2010 ( at least 25 mil in cap room and i expect they will be quite careful as to how they utilize it. i think they may not want to give alot of it to DLee with better options available next season.

Gates
I have a different scenario in another thread but basically it comes down to the Blazers having their eyes on a specific player in the draft and they need to move up. They have 5 picks in the draft (one late in the first round and four in the second round) so they have chips to play. They get our #8 and some cash and we get Sergio and their #24 and #33 picks.
We use Lee to try and get the #2 pick from Memphis.

Too many deals on most boards never benefit any team other than the home team.

Any trade scenario has to make sense for BOTH teams to have a chance of seeing the light of day. From time to time there will be Challenged GMs (Like Isiah or the Memphis GM who gave away Pau Gasol to the Lakers ; ) but most of them are pretty good at their jobs and know what they are doing. It's an art form finding deals that work for both teams and frankly most of the art in the form is on the other side of the deal. It's easy to make great trades for our team but not so easy to make great trades for both teams.
