Wow didnt he retire because he had arthritic knees? Hmmm. We must be traded Jeffries soon because we have Mlcic and Hill for size so a big man must be on the move soon.
At least Nate and Landry have someone to talk to, lol.

The Cult of Donny?
I like Bender a lot. He's got a foundation helping Katrina victims rebuild, he's a smart, dedicated family man and civic leader. He's a great guy and he's only 28 but his best year was 7 years ago and that was a whopping 7 ppg. In his time before the injuries slowed him down he was tall, skilled and he had tremendous upside but where does he fit in with the Knicks?
In truth he doesn't fit. Unless he is coming back as athletic and skilled as he was pre-injury I don't see a place for him but I wish him the best nonetheless.

It seems like Layden tried to make us into the Jazz. Flopped. Isiah tried to make us into the Bulls, flopped. Is donnie interested in making us into the Pacers? In that case we should have signed Artest to really shake things up. Just hope Bender isnt going to take Hill's minutes as that would send a wrong message to the rookie.

I do not like this move. Once knees become artritic, it is impossible to have the quickness necessary to play at a NBA level.

Dave you can't teach height and Bendor is a legit 7 footer ,his lenght will be wellcome ,Darko has been a bust for us so this move which doesn't cost us anything is worth a shot,as far as his knees affecting his NBA career, well he did have a workout with the team surely he had to show more than Darko at that workout. How that would translate to a full season of pounding on his knees well ,hopefully medical science has advanced since he started in the league in 2004.Spot duty might be a role for him but from what I hear he's a standup kid and is looked as a mentor for Hill and company which in itself might be worth the last seat on the bench.

Looks to me like Walsh is doing a favor to a player that he probably really liked in Indiana. I don't see him doing anything other than sit on the bench.

Seems to me Hill is already getting the wrong message.

twitter.com/alanhahn/Even as we speak, Alan verbally got a quote from today's practice saying he will put Bender in for spot duty on Tuesday, wow! Nate must be fuming.

Nate ought to pay attention to how Bender conducts himself as a NBA player. Maybe if he takes notes and emulates guys like Bender he will see the court again. I won't hold my breath though.

I suspect Bender is here for a. a shot b. his professional attitude and work ethic c. if all goes tremendously well, a replacement for Jeffries when they trade-winds blow. d. a kick in the arse to Darko, Curry and Hill who will have to prove they can outplay and old man with arthritic knees.

let me see him do it again. This was a total shock to me, because I haven't even heard comments from other Knicks saying he's looked good in practice or that he could really help the team. Hope it wasn't a fluke.

Bender scored 9 points last night. Knowing this board, that means some of us expect him to score 29 against Charlotte tomorrow and will call him a bust if he scores 28.
He needs to proceed at a pace comfortable for him. If that includes busting his posterior to help the Knicks win, all the better.
