i finished watching the hornets game tonight as i was busy last night. this was the first game where i got the impression that they played like a team, ie the whole as greater than the sum of its parts. the catalyst for them waking up was gallinari, who come right in after the knicks went down 11-0 and daggers a 3 pointer. is it too much to say the kid is clutch? the shot seemed to wake everybody up, and it seems that everyone did what they each do best: duhon/lee p&r, duhon hitting 3s, harrington driving to the lane-- hitting open 3s to me is gravy with him but it is useful to note that the 3s he did hit he did not initiate but rather were from passes to him. chandler was driving and finishing beautifully and did not chuck.
jeffries? ok i guess you need players who can take a charge and have the length to bother perimeter players, but he is still so weak and clumsy with the ball and he is by no means an effective post defender. does he ever finish strong? seems he always blows the layup or gets the ball stripped. i think the knicks can be fine without him frankly and in the meantime i will hold my nose.
i am really digging gallinari's defensive abilities. he is so disruptive but i think his greatest value last night and perhaps the last several games is his ability to get others to focus. i could be wrong about that but that is the impression i get. remember he hit a clutch 3 pointer a few nights ago from the top of the key against... who was it-- phoenix?
i'd love to see him matched up against turkoglu or nowitzki or odom and see how he does.
still, as many of the knick commentators have noted-- as duhon goes so go the knicks it seems, although when duhon has been off larry hughes has done a fine job stepping up his game.
i still believe the knicks can make the playoffs which is a worthwhile goal if only to stick it to the jazz for the isiah/marbury farce.
