I WAS LOOKING AT ALAN HAHN'S TWEETER PAGE AND SAW AN INTRESTING FACT. Knicks are 7-6 on the season when Robinson plays less than 15 minutes, 0-15 when he plays more than 15. HOWEVER, I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH MERIT THIS FACT HOLDS, I JUST WANTED TO SHARE IT WITH THE BOARD. MORE THAN ANYTHING THE KNICKS HAVE BEEN PLAYING VERY WELL ON THE DEFENSIVE END. AND AS THE OLD SAYING GOES, GOOD OFFENSE COMES FROM GOOD DEFENSE. THE KNICKS HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN SOME UPCOMING GAMES; THESE BEING AGAINST THE HORNETS, TWO AGAINST THE BOBCATS, CLIPPERS AND THE BULLS. ALL OF THESE ARE WINNABLE GAMES BECAUSE THE TEAMS WE ARE PLAYING ARENT THAT BIG. WHEN THE KNICKS PLAY AGAINST TEAMS WITH TALL PLAYERS WE STRUGGLE DUE TO OUR LACK OF SIZE. IM NOT LOOKING AT THE STANDINGS SO MUCH. IM LOOKING AT THE LOTTERY. I HOPE WE WIN ENOUGH GAMES TO NOT GIVE THE JAZZ A TOP TEN PICK. WE ARE ONLY A FEW GAMES AWAY FROM THE 7TH PICK IN THE LOTTERY.

The quick response is that Nate is a defensive liability. Douglas is a defensive asset. Douglas and Hughes get the PT when Nate does not play and both are plus defenders. Being able to adequately defend is a big deal on the perimeter. Nate refuses to do it.

When Nate was playing this season he wasent the same player as last year. He never could seem to get a good groove going. He has zero self control, and this makes him commit stupid mistakes over and over. However, the Knicks improved play has alot to do with imporved defense, and I dont think benching Nate made the players want to play harder on the defensive end. The two things that stick out to me is that MDA has made the Knicks a half court team. This is the best system for the players we have. In a run and gun system defense is not important because you just score alot to win, but the problem is these Knicks cannot put up points like MDAs old Suns team. Secondly, Larry Hughes has been great of late. He is playing like his Washington days. He is hitting his flat jumper, finishing at the hole, passing well, and playing great defense. The Knicks should look to trade Nate. I wouldnt be surprised if Nate plays in Europe for a couple of years to make some money. After this season he might find better deals in Europe rather than the NBA.

I think thre are good stas and bad stats and one can make any case by selecting one or the other. What I wish is that like the NHL the NBA would have a plus/ minus system covering the difference in what the Knicks score vs the opponent with certain guys on the floor. I think with these Knicks at least 3/4th would have a similar stat to Nate. I would say that with or without Nate the Knicks will lose to all the top 10 teams in the NBA. If those are the only games Nate plays in, then his record looks very bad. Take Galinari...the guy plays zero defense. He looks like a guy swatting at flies as opponents roar past him. He also takes some really bad three point shots (not open) at inopportune times a game. The story on him....nada. Hes in D'Antonis sweet spot. Now Gallo will someday be a good, maybe great player but at this stage hes primarily there for shooting purposes , just like Nate. Differnt folks, different standards. Gary

The Gallo I see is getting in opponents faces, challenging shooters, blocking shots, rebounding and generally being pretty active on the defensive end.
FWIW, nearly all NBA players get blown up on defense from time to time. Some more easily and readily than others. ; )

Gary NBA.com has similar stats and offers combination of players stats BTW - i remember a Boston game where Nate left his man (EDDIE F*ckin HOUSE) 3 times to halfway show/ semi retreat. While Nate was in no man's land house busted all 3 shots. By the 3rd time it was insane. Totally KLUELESS. Bad defense is easier to take than dumb defense
