There are two scenarios with Chris Bosh that I see. One is the sign and trade, whereby David Lee is signed and traded for CB4. However, if Bosh doesn't accept a contract extension with the Raptors and becomes an UFA in 2010, we may be able to have both Lee and Bosh, if David accepts a less than $10,000,000 a year deal with NY. I like a front-line of both Bosh and Lee. But, I like an excellent team, and I hope Donnie Walsh does as well.
Now, let's talk about adding LeBron to that attack. I know that, somehow, Blue Whale will be gone from NY in the next season. My hope is that the Knicks organization can legally void Curry's contract due to his "inability to play NBA basketball" and NY can have that extra $11,000,000 removed from their payroll. This solves everything.
However, as Bill once said, fat lards like "Snacks" would have been cut a long time back, if this was a possibility. Also, the NBA players' union would have a field day with defending Eddy's waistline. End result. NY may have to keep Curry on the payroll for 2 more seasons. So, then what does Walsh do? I once suggested a buy-out off Curry's last two years. If Fatso accepted $10,000,000 in total, 33%-35% of that figure is counted towards Knick payroll, which would allow more money for the King.
However, why accept a buy-out when you are a slothful, lazy, and uninspired athlete and are due $22,000,000? Because I think Curry would "bite" at this opportunity to get out of New York, where he is too ashamed to show his Kate Smith figure to the hostile crowds at MSG. He would gain his FA status and would probably be signed for the MLE by a "small" market team when and if he does get into NBA shape again.
I do see Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries going to the Sacramento Kings for nothing, but Kenny Thomas' expiring deal. This saves the Knicks as much money as excising Blue Whale, if you think about it. Jared Jeffries' money and Nate's projected salary will probably approach that $12,000,000 bucks that is on the cap. More dollars can be shed if we can get a 2010 pick for one of the other expiring contracts on the payroll, and I'm thinking Al Harrington, since he is probably coveted more so than Larry Hughes and Q-Tip.
I wholeheartedly believe that we will acquire LeBron James, but Walsh must make these moves in order to keep David Lee, add CB4 and the King. We let Hughes and Q remain on the team, sign Saer Sene and Courtney Sims to sub-million dollar contracts, sign Wilcox for $2.5 million or so, and draft an Evans or a Lawson this year to solidify our PG situation. In terms of replacing Harrington's scoring, I think it won't be difficult, since Wilson Chandler is poised for a break-out year, IMHO.
I think either Evans or Lawson can put up enough points to supplant Harrington's one dimensional game. We become a better defensive in 2009-10, as Sene will become the pivot-man, which allows David Lee to return to PF. Wilcox can play minutes behind Sene and Courtney Sims. Wilson will blossom without Harrington's selfish play, and I can easily see Chandler being a 20 ppg scorer next year.
So, what is the worse thing that happens in 2009-10? The Knicks win 40 games? In my scenario, we then have a 2010 pick (by trading Al Harrington) and are substantially under the salary cap to get the real gold in the summer of 2010. We keep David Lee.
Boy, am I praying that this would happen. Imagine LeBron James, Chris Bosh, David Lee, Wilson Chandler, Gallo, and one of the two precocious neophytes, Ty Lawson/Tyreke Evans on the 2010 Knicks?
