Troubling that we blow an 18 point halftime lead and almost give the game away in the final seconds when we had it locked up but very interesting that we were playing Hughes, Douglas, Hunter, Hill and Landry at the end of a close game while the Nets had 4 of their 5 starters in the game. And they still lost. Nice to see the Seton Hall logo on the court of The Rock too. Gallinari still looked tentative and his stroke is way off. On the other side of the ledger Duhon woke up and the two draft picks showed some major game.

Get used to it, Bill. If we want our boys to win, they have to win ugly games too.

Anyone wanna pack the kid's bags and drive him to JFK Airport?

One positive that I have taken over the last two games about Gallo is that he actually has a back to the basket game when guarded by a smaller defender. This is a skill that I would like to see us develop. Teams right now will defend him with a smaller player because he is usually on the perimeter. We need to take advantage of this by putting him into the paint and forcing teams to go big. Then Gallo's skills will be magnified as he will have more room to dribble and pass the ball as well as shoot.

No, I won't drive Gallo to JFK. ; )
Yes, he has shown an ability to back down smaller players and be successful.
He's still a kid and there are some things he is so instinctive about you can't help but get excited. The thing he does best though is shoot and when he looks tentative and his shot looks flat, rushed and nowhere near fluid it's a concern.
We all know D'Antoni's game plan here. Or more exactly what D'Antoni's game plan should be. ; )
Eventually it's Lee, Gallinari and Milicic up front. You have 3 extremely good passers. Lee and Gall handle the ball well. Everybody has an area of expertise. Milicic guards the low post. Lee rebounds. Gallo provides a perimeter threat to open up the middle so starting guards Chandler and Duhon both have paths to the basket.
For the plan to work though Gallo has to be able to nail his shots. So far he has not looked as confident as last year but that will change with experience.

in d'antoni's offense it seems to me that the small forward position gets hind teat. i am reminded of shawn marion who always seemed to camp out in the corner towards the end of possessions.
if that is the case then it makes no sense for gallinari to be in effect a third option out there. he is a more creative player than chandler and i don't see that changing. he is also a better shooter and better passer.
it may seem scandalous but i think chandler and gallinari should switch positions out there
secondly, though it is interesting to see that gallinari is posting up a little bit, i don't know how much of d'antoni's half court offense is predicated on low post play. seems more pick and roll and give and go oriented. are they going to be able to set up properly at the beginning of possessions when the opponent decides to sic a smaller player on gallinari?

i saw most of the nets game and i guess all i can say is that it's preseason. d'antoni's throwing all sorts of combinations of players out there almost like a monkey throwing paint at a wall to see what sticks.
either he is sandbagging of he has had a starting lineup in his mind all along.
i'd rather see milicic start ahead of jeffries because we need a defensive presence in the middle and tat is not part of jeffries's game at all-- but dantoni is going to start jeffries for the first month to showcase him.
d'antoni is going to start harrington ahead of gallinari which is sort of okay if i hold my nose, but if harrington doesn't live up to the 5+ assists he is aiming for-- not to mention getting to the line and playing some hard-nosed defense-- d'antoni should reduce his minutes gradually until he replaces him with gallinari, who is a superior passer and is actually a better defender too. i have been impressed with gallinari's defense.

Speaking of Mlicic, why does he seem so complacement and more zoned out there than usually Jeffries looks? I dont like Jeffries on our roster but Mlicic has not earned a starting spot IMO. He doesnt look ready for the regular season and just seems like he is not on the same page as the other knicks to me.
Although we need his "SKILLS" in the starting lineup hopefully he earns it in the first month more than he TRIED to earn it in preseason. I cant wait for a high value superstar(s) come here next summer because Gallo and chandler need a brisk awakening in their abilities, in the sense to explode into their potential feeding of a Lebron or a Wade with just PURE energy and hsutle.
We have no energy except with nate and Douglas more often than not so far and I just can't wait til Chandler gets he has to be aggressive out and know he CAN be the best guard out there sometimes. Same with Gallo, but Gallo needs a real TRUE skills assistant coach to teach him timing and to maximize his skills. Write in Hill for that but hill has time if he wants to learn. These assistants leave alot to be desired, IMO.

By the time Gallo gains that experience, he'll either be with the Clippers or the Warriors.
During a preseason game--I forgot which one--the announcers quoted one of the assistant coaches as saying Gallo won't be in top NBA form until he's 24 years old. Now tell me honestly--who here is willing to wait that long?

I doubt Gallo gets traded any time soon provided he stays healthy.

If you're wrong, Bill, you'll hear from my lawyer. ; )
