I was watching the Knicks in 60 replay of the last game versus Maccabi Tel Aviv last night and in the third quarter the Maccabi head coach got two techs and ejected. However since in euroleague rules the coach doesnt get ejected after two techs, he refused to leave the court. The game was delayed at least 9 minutes and the rabbi that the charity/ticket proceeds went to got on the court and tried to plead with the replacement refs and the coaching staff to let him stay. When international player come to the US/NBA, they have to play by US rules and vice versa for NBA going to Europe and Asia, we have to play by FIBA rules. If you would have seen it live you'dd think that there was going to be an uprising as the crowd was mostly Maccabi all the way, and it left these new refs embarassed and they almost made Maccabi forfeit the game. If you have MSG try to watch the rewind today this morning or check a local NY newspaper or ESPN online to see an editorial on it. Aside from the Knick win, this was the highlight of the nioght and it lasted so long i figured that the game was going to be called, which would been awkward, lol. ;D Happy Monday folks. -Jason

Jason...
I have "exalted" you for being so active on this MB lately, bringing us so many off-season topics, and you've made this tedious summer so much better for the Knick posters here! Unfortunately, I was watching reruns of "Project Runway", basically so I can glare at the models, and missed this exhibit.
How many techs are the coaches allowed to garner before they get the heave-ho? It looks as if Nate Robinson may want to consider playing in the Euro league and maybe we can trade him for Rubio? Robinson can scream all night long at the refs!
This was obviously must-see television! I wish I caught the antics, for this is the very reason we need to eliminate technical fouls for funny things, like coaches dancing up and down the court or players taunting others after a facial dunk.
Technical fouls should be reserved for unsportsmanlike and potentially dangerous plays, IMHO. I mean, Al Harrington's chin-ups TWICE versus the Kings is simply entertainment, and should not be sanctioned, although Harrington should have been made to do sit-ups on the rim as punishment.
The NBA calls way too many silly technicals. Back in the day, elbows were knocking out teeth and the game was never stopped for silliness. I have to think that D. Motumbo was responsible for the flagrant elbow fouls, for the late Norm Van Lier threw his elbows around like they were footballs. Why does $tern insist on watering down a game that should be controlled, but not stymied to the point where players cannot aggressively defend or even exhibit hilarious behavior?

I came in on the tail end of what Clyde called "an international incident."
It's very simple--rules are rules. However, since this happened at MSG, we'll get more flak for it than any other franchise. People will insist we should've let Coach Gershon stay, and bouncing him from a Knick preseason game gives the NBA a black eye--esepcially since Commissioner Stern wants basketball to stretch across international borders.
Don't say you weren't warned.

Gershon winked at the camera. He knew what he was doing and what he was doing was dead wrong. I have no doubt the replacement refs are a bit badge heavy and whistle happy but a guy with the experience of Pinchon knows the game well enough to have made allowances. Instead he makes a spectacle of himself, the Knicks and the game.

The rules are the ruless. Breen said he was called the Bobby Knight of European basketball, which is why he got the boot.
Oh well, the Knicks franchise will be alright. We outlasted the last10 years so we'll be ok. It was funny a rabbi got onto the court to discuss peace between the refs and the israeli coach.
This was comedy if you had a chance to watch it.
