Jason...
Interesting ideas. I know you mentioned previously how "thin" NY would be if they do renounce the rights to all their FAs to sign LeBron as well as another "elite" player. However, as much as this is a real concern, the idea of giving guys like Joe Alexander or Sean Williams any money concerns me, when Donnie Walsh and Coach Mike may have a knack at picking up very low-cost players like Landry and Chris Hunter, who I have yet to see play.
If we consider that David Lee could be resigned for up to $7,000,000 without compromising a King James signing, and that Gallo and Wilson are here for a few more years barring a trade, and the two rookies who are locked up, plus the painfu thought of Eddy and Jared being here potentially for two more seasons, we have 8 players, as a minimum. 7 more player are needed and Darko may be #9 in terms of remaining past this year, and we definitely need a pivot who fits into Mike D's scheme. Say we keep Landry and Hunter, and they will not harm our cap at the price they will accept, then we have 11 players in the critical year. Walsh may be able to pry away a 2010 First Round pick from a team, so that makes 12. We can simply go into 2010 with three more NBDL types, and we will be fine, numbers-wise.
I am not impressed with these two players enough to offer them $100,000 per year. We can do better, even if the guys we do get, simply wear suits and sit next to Curry, who I hope can be packaged with the Mobley contract for T-Mac's expiring deal. Lest we forget, Ricky Rubio may still be in play, and Minnesota's GM is as stupid as a stick. I'd give them Nate Robinson and Jeffries for Ruby's rights.

Sean Williams has some serious maturity issues. Joe Alexander is a freaky athlete whose skills haven't caught up yet. IMHO either would be a good NBA minimum risk to help fill out the lineup if we gut it to get an elite free agent. The thing is we can't have too many "projects" on the roster if we plan on being a contender.

The thing about Sean williams is that even though he is so lazy and has a bad attitude he does have shot bocking ability, something we had in Renaldo Balkman when he was here who I still wish we had just for a numbers game in anything.
Specialty guys and someone who you only have to invest 100k in as long as he is willing to be better than what he is so far is someone i'd take a gamble on. IF he can prove he wants to be better. Operative word.
Shotblocking aside from Chandler and Mlicic would be heavily appreciated IMO. Just two notable guys that are coming off of lackluster campaigns with their respective teams and really on Milwaukee and New Jersey where there is barely any promise for the teams or players there no wonder they havent lived up to their potential.

My sole issue is not messing up our cap for either 2010 or 2011. Donnie Walsh has put us in the best position possible for this upcoming summer, and NY will have the most cap-room available of any NBA team to sign FAs. If we can get rid of Jeffries, and I will footnote Jason's and my desire for Mike James on this one, we gain that much needed $7,000,000 additional money which, if the cap is not going to be lowered to that horrific figure of $51,000,000, can basically assure us of being in position of getting TWO free agents.
I have no problem signing guys for minimum one year deals, and Walsh seems to be in touch with reality, even with pivotal players like David Lee and Nate Robinson. Hell, he also gave them both incentives to earn a million bucks each, probably more to not make these players feel so low-balled, which they basically were, although Nate appeared ready, willing, and able to sign the qualifying offer which was a million less then what he got.
This is why I like Walsh's style. He is not going to resign players simply because of an agent's wants and desires. On other hand, he did give both players reasonable deals. Lee's agent, Mark Bartlestein, did Lee such a disservice that Dave should sue him for damages done. All Bartlestein did was paint Dave a rose-colored fantasy world, and delivered nothing. Donnie worked it out with Lee, and now I am certain we will see David improve on his deficiencies, for he will be unrestricted next year and needs to play his ass off. Same with Nate. Plus, Walsh capitalized on the biggest issue, which is both players' love of the team and desire to remain Knicks.
If Walsh can get rid of Jeffries for Mike James, we have more depth in our sparse back court. I am not 100% sure of Duhon's ability to sustain his play for 82 plus games, and so much pressure is on Toney Douglas, who I think may supplant Duhon if he continues to play as he has. TD may end up being a steal and he fills a need of the team. That said, he is a rookie PG and it would not hurt us to acquire Mike James and, at the same time, get an additional $7,000,000 more cap room for summer 2010.

I got back late from seeing Leon Russel at BB King's and watched the game tivoed late last night,I'm supprise Gallo 's shot is not fully back yet,I think N8 is opening eyes with his early play,we need an enforcer on this team Darko seems like his mind is in another planet.I see a defensive play we have not seen here in years and this alone will gives us alot more wins then last year with N8 and Ghostface leading the charge,Duhon had a great shooting night. What we need is a strong player who plays tough defense,Darko is being tried there I hope it worksout ,if it doesn't we need a shot blocker supreme who can knock down people who dare to drive to the whole,a young Wallace type is what we need.Jeffries is making us trading him easier because of his improvement which is great because our young guys need burn especially Hill.Hill needs alot of playing time to get the hang of this system and when he does he should be awesome.I like our team we seem to be having a great time together and the commarderie is great,I know my spelling sucks LOL,We seem to be together except Hughes who should be cut to keep Crawford and Laundry. We are getting alot more stops which I tryly like alot ,while the defense has got better our shooting has gotten worse which I can llive with for now because I believe that will come once we get our leggs.

You want Hughes to take out the LAUNDRY, whereas I want LANDRY to replace Hughes. And who is "Ghostface" anyway. Darko is all we've got, live with it. Curry is Kaput. Hill's spaceship hasn't arrived yet, but I think it will soon. Young Wallace types don't grow on trees, you are dreaming. We got Chris Hunter(maybe) Darko and Curry. Lots of luck with that. If Darko doesn't come through, the Knicks are in trouble with Lee/Jeffries as our centers.................again. That ain't good enough and exposes Lee on defense. BTW it's comraderie. From the Russian comrade. You use that word often enough, and we will think you are a dirty RED COMMIE.! I speak Russian and I was in electronic surveillance, so be careful!
