I am working on some think pieces on this summer and beyond so hopefully that will generate some interest leading up to the draft at the end of June. Unlike most summers there should be a lot to talk about here as Walsh will be wheelin' and dealin'. In the meantime the board is still here.

Here's the deal, Bill. So many college players have opted not to enter this year's draft, that I have changed my mind about Walsh obtaining a second 1st round pick for this year. Now I would rather he works a deal for a 2010 1st round pick with one of his chips(Hughes, Hangington, or Nate/Jeffries combo). In 2010 Aldrich or Jerome James will be better and available. So now we are waiting for the ping-pong balls to drop.........not sure when that is. Then the actual draft which is on June 27th. There are no good big men left @ 8 and beyond, so might as well draft a guard such as Evans, Lawson, Flynn or Henderson. Evans fills two needs as he can play the 1 or 2, so either Duhon or Hughes(or Chandler) can start, and he can switch between 1 and 2 as needed. I can see a starting lineup of Duhon, Evans, Chandler, Lee and Mr. Big Question Mark, and then Hughes or Nate(whichever is still on the team) coming in as Duhon goes out and Evans moves to the 1. I just hope Sene, Sims or Hunter emerges as a reasonable facsimile of a center, because it sure doesn't look like any other big man is coming the Knicks way. Berman in his Post blog, calls Tyson Chandler "gimpy" and then advocates obtaining him. What a doofus. Another year without a center is another lost season. Even a totally fit Eddy Curry("fat" chance of that, pun intended), would not really fit anyway. Unless the Blazers fold early, and decide to dump salary, I don't see anything happening. The 2009 draft is just not gonna help this Knicks team all that much now, with all the players dropping out. If the Knicks can't get Evans, then I would advocate a Lawson/Budinger combination as the next best thing. That would at least bring a floor general with guts and sharp-shooter who can defend to the team.

There is just nothing Knicks related to talk about right now.

Bill, There is just nothing Knicks related to talk about right now. DA I beg to differ. ; ) We could grade the team seeing areas of improvement, areas that need improvement, coaching, effort, karma, etc. There is what to do with Lee and Nate and all the various scenarios that could spin. There is the draft. Talent versus Need. There is who stays and who goes off the present squad and why. I need to add the caveat that saying Q or Curry must go is overly simplistic with Q's contract ending in 2010 and Curry being virtually impossible to trade now. We know Walsh will make deals this summer. Might he go after Bosh? Tyson Chandler? Portland desperately wants Lee so who are they willing to part with for him? We can forget Aldridge, Roy and Oden. ; ) Anybody can say we suck, everybody should get traded and released but that's not discussion. That's a mandate. ; ) We can do better.

If we are to let Nate and Lee go, Im sure Walsh will do some sign and trades to get us some future picks. That being said, I dont want chandler's contract and bum leg. I like the idea of bringing Camby in, and letting him play next to Curry and Lee, if he's back. i dont see anyone out there on someone else's team nor the draft. Can we develop a Sene or someone to just man the paint and block shots? It's also obvious that we need a leader on this team, so if we can rent a Kidd for a year or draft a Lawson, I can live with that. On the other hand, we also have a glaring need for a player who can create his own shot, who's over 5'8", so do we go with an Evans? So my feeling of priorities is 1. defensive Center (not a Dalembert type) 2. PG- rent a KIDD or a Lawson 3. SG- who can also defend.
Im thinking (praying) Stern will hand us Griffin or Rubio this year just because the League and this City are desperate for a break, so everything changes after that. Looking forward to see if Chandler works on his dribble and Danillo can put on some muscle. I looking for 15 and 6 from him next year.

I think we could make a play for Bosh at the deadline. We have pieces like Q that expire....and a couple others like Hughes and Harrington expiring in 2010. If Bosh makes it clear he wont resign, Toronto will ship him out. Doing it within the division might be a longshot. Maybe Q, a young cheap bigman we signed and a Lee/Nate. NO way Bosh doesnt resign in 2010 with us if we land him during the season. DO you give up Lee for Bosh?

I think the Raptors would do a David Lee plus our first rounder for Chris Bosh. I just feel Toronto is not just going to let him walk, and let's remember the value of Canadian currency, which is 80% of the reason many players hold against playing over the border.
I haven't been here in a few days because of my aching back. Perhaps I should see Gallo's doc?
