David Lee is now a Knick for the upcoming season. He will earn 7 million for the year, and a one million dollar bonus if the Knicks make the playoffs. More contracts should be structured this way.

About damn time. ; ) I hope we can figure a way out to keep Lee past this year but at least we have some more time to work it all out. Nate should be signing in the next few days too.
Makes me wonder what where all those sign and trade deals Lee's agent Bartestein kept bringing up every time he talked to the press this summer. I guess they just didn't work out or Donnie Walsh is a better poker player than Bartlestein. ; )

walsh is by far the better poker player. he will have not paid a nickel over what either lee or robinson is worth and he has taken control of the team. no contract-year players will be allowed to accumulate stats at the expense of winning. d'antoni has a deeper team and can sit the players who won't conform as opposed to last year where he had no choice once duhon fell apart.
i love it.
what i also like about this deal is that there's a bonus of one million if the knicks make the playoffs. this means that walsh and d'antoni are intent on getting to the playoffs while keeping the bullsh*t zero sum players on a short leash. you play d'antoni ball-- share the ball and make the right decisions-- or you sit.
i love it.

I think this is great news for both Dave and the Knicks. Like DK says, Walsh didn't pay a nickel over what David is worth, plus he is giving incentive clauses to him. Nate will also have incentive clauses in his deal. Now, this is how a professional GM of a sports' franchise should be. I am, once again, proud of Donnie Walsh, who, in my estimation, should be a candidate for GM of the Year if he manages to get rid of Jared Jeffries.
Now, we can talk about our front-court with a little more ease. We have David back at the PF, Curry in the pivot or Darko, and Gallo at the three, which is an excellent position for him. He is taller than most players at the SF and has a shot that is a real beauty. I also think his ball-handling skills will be showcased as well at this position. Will Chandler is our 6'8 SG, which is another position in which the Knicks have an advantage. I think we will be fine at the point with Chris Duhon, Toney Douglas, and, of course, Nate being handed this duty at times.
Our bench is very solid in my opion. Although I know DK and Iron view Al Harrington and Nate as "zero-sum" players, they certainly will prove to be far better than predicted when you put them in together with Larry Hughes, Milicic, and Jordan Hill. This is how I imagine the second unit to look, although Jared Jeffries huge contract must be moved, hence, I am uncertain as to how much time our rookie gets, at least before February. I just hope that Jeffries doesn't steal the minutes that rightfully need to go to our young core.
All in all, Lee's agent, Mark Bartlestein was made to look like the biggest jackass in the NBA and that's fine with me. Now we will have both Nate and David for less what Bartlestein wanted for his one client. Dumbo, LOL!

An interesting thought about this year's Knicks.
If Darko starts along with Gallo and Lee that is a an all white frontcourt. It certainly doesn't matter to me but one of our old friends from AOL would be having a baby (probably Marbury's ; ) at this prospect. With Gallo coming from Italy, Darko from Serbia and Lee from the good ol' USA I'm not sure the Protocols of Zion is the right reading material but certainly "We Are the World" answers the musical question. ; )
Interestingly enough that frontcourt would have some good size plus all three are outstanding passers and ballhandlers. If Lee's jump shot shows more improvement that is a perfect fit for D'Antoni and his system. Not to appear like a broken record but Gallo is the key. His play, his ability, his skills make the Knicks either a playoff contender or pretender.

Irish its so funny you posted that about KT.While I was driving home last night I had the same thought. Now if the Knikcs could get Rubio and Fernandez KT might spontaneously combust.

"OH FIUGRES DAT YU DONT FOLLOW THE PROTOCALLS YOU MUS READ DEM" No, I do not miss that character one iota...even the rapping was getting stale.
Back to our tall front-line. I love it, and honestly, I am happy that Dave is back in the fold. If only that damned jumper would start falling more consistently, and it has to now, based on Lee having to be the PF on this squad. Plus, if Curry starts at the 5, he doesn't board well enough for us to have not had Lee upfront with him.
Bill, you cannot say it enough. Gallo is vital to anything good the Knicks do, and I believe that this kid has the moxie to be that player who will help turn the team around...along with Chandler, Lee, and our other youngsters. Maybe even skinny Eddy?

Imagine if the Knicks acquired Rubio. Then the starting lineup would be 3 white Euros and Lee. The protocols would then have to be set on fire. I had been thinking 3 starting Euros for most of the summer. I think only the Spurs could come close to matching that.

Remember when the Celtics were winning all those championships though teamwork with Larry Bird, Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale in their frontcourt. The Knicks had those good years with Debuscherre, Reed and Bradley. Just good players, not racial quotas.

Isn't ironic that as soon as Dave signs his deal, Eddy Curry comes down with a hammy problem? Walsh must have had psychic powers or the power of detecting when a player obviously cannot even scrimmage against "D" leaguers.

The idea of KT spontaneously combusting is amusing. ; ) And probable too if the Protocols Align. ; ) The idea of 4 white guys and LeBron is maybe not such a stretch. ; ) I mention it only because others found it interesting but considering my favorite Knicks are all black players (Clyde, Pearl, Willis, McAdoo and BK) I really don't care as long as the Knicks win and they bring the magic back to the Garden.
BTW, I did know Curry's hammy was troubling him though I should have expected it. Doesn't he get hurt on the eve of every training camp?

Gates
It just occurred to me that my five favorite all-time Knicks would make a helluva basketball team. Clyde and Pearl at the guards, McAdoo at PF, King at SF and The Captain at center....
Now bring Ewing, Houston, DeBusschere, Larry Johnson and Oak off the bench and we got ourselves a team. ; ) We would have to add some guards (Spree and Mark Jackson work for me) for balance but it's not a bad team.
Of course the Celtics could field Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Bob Cousy, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Dave Cowens, Robert Parrish, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Dennis Johnson, Sam Jones, JoJo White and Kevin Garnett.
The Lakers could be Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and George Mikan.
Damn. ; )
