I happened to turn on NY1, (Time Warner Cable Station that has a sports show), the host was Tom Mc Donald and his studio guest was Chas Oakley.
Oak is one my favorite NY athletes of all time, and he's calls him like he sees em'
The part I missed when I tuned in was Oak talking about working out with David Lee and really liking his game, saying that the Knicks are rebuilding why not keep D Lee. Oak was kinda glowing about Lee and he doesn't exactly glow when he talks about too many players.
Among other comments he said'
Though he loved Starks Ro Blackmon was under used, specially in the playoffs...
He wished Riley used a front line of Oak Mase and CHARLES SMITH more
Loved Riley but thought his substitution patterns were too rigid and blew it vs da bulls in the playoffs.
when asked about the Jordan speech he just shook his head as if to groan but mumbled "michael is one of my best friends"
he also said he keeps in touch with just about all of his X knick teammates.
if the show was 3 hours I would have been hanging on every word.
Albeit gray Oak looks like he can play today

I love Oak too and he is one of my absolute favorite Knicks.
Of course now that we have Oak's endorsement on David Lee they are talking about trading him for Carlos Boozer. ; )

would you trade lee for boozer? Right now? No, unless we somehow got our draft pick back for 2010 that Utah now holds. Then I would consider it but Boozer is a one year investment and while better than Lee he has also reached his ceiling. Lee still has upside, still could be cheap for the value he brings and he's a crowd favorite. I like Boozer's game but if he is gone in 2010 why trade Lee for an asset we can't use past next year?

I love Oak and he still appears in playing shape, unlike some of our current players. I am sorry I missed that interview, but I agree with Oak on the Ro Blackman issue, for we may have won a third title if not for Starks' insanity versus Houston. No way would or could Ro Blackman, even injured, shoot 2 for 18. Of course, Riley's fetish with Starks is more responsible for us losing the finals than even the bagboy.
I still find it amazing that Charles Oakley has not been hired by NY as an assistant "Big Man" coach. This guy played center and PF and no one messed with Oak, and if they did, they were pimp slapped. I remember Oak giving it to Chris Webber and Otis Thorpe, the latter who nearly ran away from the Oakman.
Going back in time, the Knicks biggest error was not resigning Xavier McDaniel the season he went to Boston. Having X and Oak was a terrific combination. Charles Smith was played out of position by Riley as a three, and as much as I cannot even deal with Smith's play-off gaffes, I blame Riles for that as well. X had that NY attitude and Smith did not. A line-up of Ewing, Oakley, and McDaniel would have been awesome had it lasted another year.
NY was a nasty-ass team back in those Mason, Oak, etc. days!

I have it on good authority that Oak indeed has contacted the Knicks to offer his services to no avail. And yes young Webber and Thorpe were his beeotches.

I rather sign David Lee.Boozer has injury concerns that I want no part off.David Lee will get better IMO and locking him up for 7.5 per with raise would be my main goal after jetisoning Curry and Jeffries.I'm not saying that I would not make that trade tough if I can't sign David then Boozer will provide good trade value to retrade him and get a number one and somebody young like Thomas from Chitown. But I would not be in favor of signing Boozer long term, just like I would not like to sign charmin soft Bosh either.I really like David and I hope we work it out and I hold out the same hope for my man N8 and his new baby girl.I think all our young homegrown talent should be norished and kept, these guys Gallo,Chandler,N8,Lee,Hill,Douglas,Duhon are a nice nucleus, yea I put Duhon there LOL,Darko is going to be interesting to see how he responds in DAnt system he could be added if he pansout.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Agreed, Oak would be a great motivator, teacher and mentor. Walsh should wake up and hire Oak and Clyde for assistant positions. Oak can help Lee, Gallo, Chandler and Darko. Clyde's guidance would be invauable to Douglas and Duhon. Walsh, your supposed to be an astute NBA veteran executive, start within your own organization and hire these two immediately.

I also heard that Oak has wanted to be a part of the Knicks organization and I cannot agree more with Mouse and Pearl on this idea. Clyde, I believe, wants to remain a commentator and it is a damned shame, since he is top fifty all-time NBA PG, and IMHO, stands second only to Oscar Robertson in terms of playmaking. Frazier is so astute when it comes to analysis of positional players, and he calls it right, specifically when Duhon picks up his dribble or keeps his head down, etc. These are bad habits for many PGs in the NBA, and when I watch the old videos of Clyde's magnificent orchestration of the title teams, it baffles me why Donnie just doesn't hire him as well--make him the richest assistant in NBA history. Instead, we have Mike's brother, who is a nice guy, and a cast of others, including Herb Williams, who has head coaching experience, but is, IMO, too nice with our "Bigs" e.g. Eddy Curry.
Oakley would have pimp-slapped those corn dogs out of Eddy's beak before he even got a whiff of them. Now, that's what our team needs. An enforcer.
Barkley was another guy who Oak absolutely loathed. Sir Charles talked a lot of trash about Oak back in the day, but it was always when Sir Upchuck was at least 2000 miles from wherever Oakley was. When the young Webber got into Oak's face, I do not think Charles really "hated" Webber. But he did have Chris make him a few sandwiches. I loved how Oak handled the so-called tough Otis Thorpe. Otis put on his ballet slippers and did a dance to the tune that Oakley was going to play on his face...
When Ewing and Chris Dudley were injured, Oak played center and at 6'9, 245 pounds, may have been undersized, but he held his own, for damned sure. It killed him, IMHO, when NY traded him to Toronto. I ended up liking Camby, but the Knicks became a wussier team.
I had no idea that Oak worked out with David Lee. One thing I do notice with Lee is he does show aggression when he is hit down low and doesn't run away from any confrontation. Maybe I need to re-evaluate my thoughts on the Knicks keeping Lee past this season. It can be done, according to Alan Hahn's analysis of the team's cap situation. Lee would have to accept a long-term deal which averages around $7.3 million--which would still allow us to sign LeBron James. Now only if Donnie could wrangle his T'Wolves buddy, Kahn, into taking Jared Jeffries in a swap for Rubio's rights...Yeah, and if I were a trolley, I'd have wheels.

Nice thoughts ken, especially on the JJef for Rubio idea but if study the TWolves you'll see that sadly they have no use for mediocre forward. (jeffries)
