Rare basketball note: James Knicks-bound? From SI.com by Jon HeymanA couple folks inside the Yankees' clubhouse say they believe that LeBron James will be headed to New York as a Knick in a couple years. How they know this, well, they didn't say. But my guess would be that (CC) Sabathia, who knows James from his Cleveland days, expressed this opinion to them. I am sure he wouldn't give away any secret like this publicly, so there's no sense in me even asking him. But it's something to watch for.

I trust this bit of info like I trusted Mario Lemieux when he "predicted" Michael Jordan would come out of his second retirement. When James signs on the dotted line in front of Walsh amd D'Antoni, THEN I'll jump for joy--and not a minute before.

I am not exactly jumping for joy yet, either, but I will say that even this little tidbit will get the Cavelier media buzzing! Boy, the Cleveland Plain Dealer writers are already planning their counter-attack on poor Jon Heyman... BTW, was that Mario Lemieux reference to when the Knicks were suppose to "acquire" MJ for a million bucks a year? I have these vague recollections of that silliness...

Beats me, Ken. I just thought it was dumb to rely on ML's word, even though he and MJ were friends

Funny, during halftime on Saturday they did their usual t-mobile "Fave 5" segment which featured Lebron James' favorite atheletes growing. He mentioned Penny Hardaway and Emmit Smith to name a few. Naturally his 5th and final to no surprise was- Lebron James. This guys ego will bring him to New York. He could be the billion dollar athelete he's always talked about before he's 30 years old by coming here.

Frank Isola (NY Daily News) today mentioned that he was always of the belief that the King would remain in Cleveland no matter what, but too many "sources" are saying that James will be in NY as a FA in 2010. LeBron is not a fool. You could win an NBA Championship for the Cavs (personally, I think LA will wax them in the finals, if they get passed Boston), and it means next to nothing, in the long term. Win a title with NY and you are a HOF God. And wealthier beyond anything Akron can give you.

Ken I think LA will smoke them too. I think Cleveland is the best team hands down IMO but the Lakers are a close 2nd, with better all around players. Kobe is Kobe. I'm a Kobe hater but I've begun to like him more the last two years. I think his greatness is negated by Lebron head to head in a series because Lebron is better to me. The difference to me is the rest of the Lakers. Pau Gasol is the best power forward in the league. I really think he's past all the others. Duncan and KG are hurt bad, and who knows if they will ever return to previous form. Amare is somewhat unproven and some say Dirk may be on the downside at this point? Either way Pau is best or 2nd best at his position, just like Kobe. At not even 28 years old, Pau is prime. Lamar Odom is playing great ball too. Since Bynum went down, he got his groove back and has continued his tear off the bench since Andrew's return. At 29, Odom is also in his prime. His speed and quickness looks better then ever. He looks stronger than ever. He has learned to play the 3, even playing the Scottie Pippen point forward role Phil Jackson envisioned for him 5 years ago. And doing it well. Odom is dunking the ball on everybody. Call me crazy but sometimes I think he is a an all star caliber player, and even more valuable then Carmelo Anthony. Kobe-Pau-Lamar are all in their prime. Then Bynum. What a monster. If he learns to follow his shot, he's gonna be unstoppable. LA is just too big and too good, no matter even if I think Cleveland is a better team. Either way, Kobe still cant dribble with his left hand. LOL- Neil

Just looking at the Lakers line-up with Bynum (We should have took him rather than my man, Channing Frye), I just cannot see Cleveland getting past 6 games with LA. LeBron makes everyone around him better, a quality that I question in Kobe , but I just cannot see a Joe Smith or a Big Z being able to negate the front-line of the Lakers. Prior to Garnett's injury, I picked Boston to go to the Finals, but it will be Cleveland and Los Angeles. Lakers in 6. Maybe 5?

Lakers in 5 or 6, if it somehow goes 7, I think its either teams game.
