We are getting Lebron, you can book that ,the question is do we have money left for Wade.D Ant systems is a god sent for these guys they love it,we will have no trouble to attract talent when we get Lebron here period.I f Eddie improves which now it looks good we can move these contracts and we can move Jeffries it might cost us but we can do it ,I think right now it's looking good for Lebron and Wade to unite in the big apple for 2010 .Gates that article is wrong and too negative we haven't done anything to hurt 2010 yet the cap came down a bit but we still have Lebron money locked up,we need to open space for Wade money which we will IMO.

I completely agree that LeBron is a mortal lock to be a Knick--the man said that he wants to be a free agent and wants to explore his "opportunities".
Unless NY can dump Jeffries AND Curry THIS season, we won't be able to offer enough money for an additional FA in 2010. That said, both Eddy and Jared are off the books in 2011, and I am looking at Chris Paul as an addition--a vital piece.
I think we will be a great team with LeBron and Paul joining Chandler and Gallo. 3 of these players can play interchangeable positions. You can put Wilson as a SG, James at any position but center--but for the sake of a discussion, let's put him at the 3, and Gallo is the 4.
I am sure by 2010 we will know if we should resign Darko, since this guy may be a pefect pivot for the D'Antoni system. Milicic is almost 7'2, and the kid can shoot, block shots, and board. Jordan Hill may be able to play some 5, and Curry may just have saved his NBA life.
In 2011, I see that $19,000,000 which comes off our salary cap, going to CP3. The Knicks need a freaking stellar PG, and this will make LeBron even more dangerous since he won't be bringing up the ball as he does in Cleveland. Plus, Gallo and Darko are pretty good passers and have good court vision. I also see Danilo playing some high post center ala Jack Sikma.
I think NY will be fine up front and Chandler will be an excellent off-guard/SF. The greatest aspect of all of these Knicks--and I am including LeBron, is that they all can play various positions.

I think our chances are better with Bosh than Wade. I would hesitate to move from Miami to NY too if I were DWade but on the other hand having LBJ here will help and it isn't like NYC isn't a very cool place to be rich, young and a sports star. Maybe we can have Derek Jeter show LBJ and wade the NYC social ropes. ; )

Irish i think they both want to play together.NY would be on fire if we would get both.I think we can move Ediie and Jeffries and in 2011 get CP3,that would be awesome Gallo,Chandler,Lebron,CP3 and Wade with Darko and Hill,Douglas.Kenny I wouldn't ruleout Rubio instead of CP3.I have a feeling DLee would be dealth and probably N8 which would bother me since both are our guys, but the cap hurts them most,we have to give to get.Jeter is awesome from a Met fan.I wonder how long we have to wait for the dealings to begin,it can't happen soon enough for me.

I think what is cool about this article is that each and every point has been raised and discussed here. Give yourself a pat on the back boardmates. ; ) As for the particulars I would love Joe Johnson but Atlanta is trying to lock him up long term as we speak. www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60979/20090805/joe_johnson_working_on_extension_with_atlanta/Now who is available? There are some real good players available but most of them will be 30 or older next summer. That list would include Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, Rip Hamilton, Michael Redd, Manu Ginobili, Ray Allen, Tracy McGrady, Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal. The two under 30 guys left if we cannot get James, Wade, Bosh, or Joe Johnson would be Carlos Boozer and Amare Stoudamire. Both will be 28 next year. Both would be health risks, somewhat, and maybe personality risks as well. The article states a 54 million cap and 30 million in salary minus Lee and Nate but with Curry and Jefferies. My numbers come up to about the same assuming we sign 5 guys to NBA minimum type contracts. The core of the Knicks, contractually, would be Curry, Jefferies, Gallo, Chandler, and Hill. My plan, either remarkably brilliant or amazingly Isiah-like stupid is not to worry about the cap. To my way of thinking there are two guys worth taking an all or nothing chance for in 2010. One is LeBron James. The other is Dwayne Wade. I don't think we can get Wade. I certainly don't believe we can get both of them. That leaves James. How hard would it be with all the cross pollination in the NBA these days (guys on different teams who are amigos or share the same agent/sponsor/girlfriend/PED dealer ; ) to find out what LeBron will do? How hard would it be to find out his conditions? I know it's tampering. ; ) I think Walsh and the Knicks already know the temperature of LeBron and his camp so if they commit to him in 2010 I love it. But if not here is a Plan B that will rock the Casbah. ; ) My Pan B (assuming James, Wade, Bosh and Johnson are off the board) would be trading for Boozer this year (maybe a three way with Utah and another club interested in Lee). I would also trade for Rip Hamilton, this year, using the Larry Hughes contract as bait. Rip is due 36 million or so over the next 3 years. I like that contract length for a 32 year old SG. Boozer is looking at maybe a 70 million dollar deal over the next 5 years. I like that length for a 28 year old PF. Sign Ramon Sessions to a MLE deal. If Walsh likes him so much and we are not going to land LBJ then spend the money. While we are it spend the money re-signing free agents Darko Milicic, Al Harrington and Chris Duhon. We will go over the cap but we will have Darko, Hill, Gallinari, Boozer, Chandler, Hamilton, Sessions, Duhon, Douglas and Harrington for the 2010 season. That's a good playoff team. It's not a championship team but if the young guys develop who knows. It's also not LeBron but if LBJ is just playing games we move on and get better. The downside is we will be over the cap.

Bill...
I like the Plan B where we wait a year and go after the other not-so-elite yet young free agents that will be available in 2011, but, then again, I am betting my house on the fact that LeBron James will be here. I see the Knicks building around James with our existing core, which includes David Lee, who I think is sulking over not getting his $12,000,000 a year contract.
LeBron would fit in perfectly at any position. In 2011, as the article states, Donnie Walsh shows that he will make excellent use of the $18,000,000 of additional free agent monies which become available when Jeffries and Curry are no longer extorting money from the Knicks. Walsh takes a hard look at Carmelo Anthony and the other good to elite players who will be there for the offering. Personally, I am not very comfortable at the PG or PF positions right now, unless Jordan Hill shows that he is a stud forward in the mold of Amare or Lee signs a one year pact. Chris Paul will also be a free agent in 2011. This is the direction that I would like to see NY go.
Rip Hamilton? I don't see him being a Knick, especially at his age. 32 is getting up there for a guard who will have to run and gun in the current system. We have our SG in Wlson Chandler now. I'd much prefer NY to use Dave in a sign and trade for Boozer, who has an expiring contract and his "Bird" rights come along with him, so if Walsh elects to do so, he can sign Boozer to be James' 'Pippen'. Even that move has its question marks as Boozer is injured more often than not and one also has to wonder why Utah basically has forged ahead without him in their future.
I am very wary of throwing money at over the hill players, and despite Hamilton's great career, he is too old for a three year deal or even for this Knicks team. To me, it reminds me too much of the old regime and on a young team, I just don't see the fit for Rip with our other guys.
I think a three year extension might be good to retain Al Harrington out of all the Knicks since he can play both forward positions off the bench. I think Darko is going to become the center he was projected to be when he was drafted, as we all know it takes big men 5 years to develop into the players they will be, even in a best case scenario. Milicic has never gotton that opportunity, meaning a best case scenario, and Walsh made a terrific move in acquiring a guy who may end up being that high-post center we have wanted for years. Put the monies into him, if James somehow wants to remain in putrid Akron for some unearthly reason, as well as Chandler and Gallo.
Chandler and Gallo will also become RFAs in a couple years, and one thing no one wants is a David Lee scenario repeated...
