Jason Williams, after a one year voluntary retirement, is eligible to play again on Sept 26, no strings attached. He is only 33 years old, and would be an upgrade over Duhon, and is better than Tinsley. Supposedly the Knicks are interested. He got a ring with the Heat. Now he is looking to "un- retire". He might be the perfect stop-gap point guard to fill in for a year or two. Might work well in the D'Antoni system. Any thoughts out there? He used to play out of control at times with too much "flashiness", but has since toned down his act. Certainly he would not command a big contract at this point in time, and would leave lots of flexibility for 2010. Of all the possible point guard "solutions" proposed, he might be the best, if the price is right. If he can still play, that is. I would at least bring him in for a scrimmage to see if there is anything left in the tank.

Jamaal Tinsley met with Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni yesterday, according to the NY Post. No contract was discussed nor were playing issues brought up.
I hadn't heard that Jason Williams was even out of retirement. He certainly seems worthy of a look, unless the Knicks are ready to tender an offer to Ramon Sessions, which was, according to the NY Daily News, the only other PG under serious consideration. In fact, there was a report that Nate Robinson's one year signing has been held up based on the possibility of NY signing Sessions, who, according to RealGM, and I quote, "would be the Knicks first signing of a restricted free agent".
My feeling is that NY must look beyond these temporary solutions in order to sign Sessions, as the search for a starting PG would be over for this year, next year, and the year after. If either Tinsely or Williams signed it would be for only one year, and the NY Post stated that Jamaal would accept the veteran's exception or a portion of it. I assume the same would be for Williams.
If NY is looking for a reserve PG in addition to Sessions and Duhon, I think both Jamaal and Jason should be invited to scrimmige with the team. I would not consider either for anything more than a back-up role to Chris Duhon, and even that's a stretch considering Toney Douglas has shown enough skill to be able to be a back up PG, at worst.

I had a lot of opportunity to watch Jason Williams at Florida. Few PGs are as magical with the ball in their hands and JWill is a very creative passer. His shooting is not good and sometimes he gets in these modes where he jacks a lot of ill-advised shots but the down and dirty is when he takes his time and he takes good shots Williams can hit them. His passing and ball creativity alone were made for the D'Antoni system. He's worth a shot if we cannot land Sessions.

Certainly worth a look over Tinsley most definitely

The more I'm reading and hearing from you experts, the more I think that Jason Williams is the way to go. Forget Sessions, Tinsley etc. Lets just sign JWill for 1 or 2 years, on the cheap and see what happens. Sounds like a good fit to me! Think he can feed the ball to Gallinari, Harrington and Lee? Chandler too! Maybe he can even get Eddy or Darko involved! If he can still play, what an upgrade, and cheap most likely also. I'm beginning to like this idea, assuming no Rubio is looming around the corner. Which I still think is the secret, ultimate goal of Donnie-boy. A point guard rotation of J Williams, Duhon and Douglas for defense sounds good to me. That is a major upgrade without jeopardizing 2010.

I don't want JWill. I am perfectly happy to have Duhon start and Douglas develop as the backup. With those two, we will at least have two players at PG who are pass first guys who put in the effort on defense.

It appears if both J-Will and J-Tin are off our radar, as ESPN is reporting that Ramon Sessions will be signing with the Knicks in a deal Milwaukee (who just signed Hakim Warrick) will not be able to match.

It looks like my scoop of Jason Williams going to the Knicks may happen, along with the signing of Ramon Sessions which will probably be a sign and trade now, as either Nate or Duhon has to go. This should make things interesting!

The Knicks got the rights to JWill and they haven't pulled the trigger yet on Sessions. Meanwhile Mike Taylor, the ultra quick Clipper PG who killed us last year was just released by the Clips. So was Gabe Pruitt by the Celtics. It's raining PGs!!!!
What to do, what to do. ; )

Ja Will can not play any defense at all, that's why Miami got smart and got rid of him,I love Duhon more than most but you can not say Duhon doesn't play 100 times better defense than Ja Will,I don't want him ,he will be a sive on defense.I also hope everyone Clyde included who are high on Sessions are right, the small sample I saw was not earth shattering.I know there are not too many choices but let's make a deal later,we keep Duhon and make a deal later in the year when we would hopefully have more valued chips playing well to trade.

Good call Ironman if we keep Duhon and we have Duhon and Douglas on the defense I can live with Ja Will dishing on the cheap. He does have quickness which translate well on DAnt system and we have more dee with Darko and Hill.I'm with you on the Rubio horizon and passing on Session.

The Jason Williams referred to in this thread is White Chocolate, the PG from Florida who played with Memphis and Miami. The gun freak is Jayson Williams, the PF from St. Johns and the Nets, and the PG from Duke and the Bulls is Jay Williams though he had to change his name because of the other Jason Williams as he was Jason Williams too. ; )
