I cannot believe Donnie Walsh is meeting with Jamaal Tinsley this week, in light of his Marbury-like antics. In addition, the NY Post and NY Daily News are intimating that there is somewaht of a snag in the signing of Nate Robinson, which doesn't make sense, when just yesterday, The NY Times, RealGM, and The NY Daily News were reporting that Nate's contractual situation was a done deal, that David Lee may either be signed to a one year year $7.5 million deal or if he rejected this offer, he would be signed and traded to Chicago for Ty Thomas.
I suppose I can see the economic and possible basketball value of signing Tinsley to the vet's exception, but why does the media seeming change their reporting of what is happening with David Lee and Nate Robinson on an hourly basis? I wish to say that I trust Walsh and that I believe that when all is said and done, we will have Nate back, NY will get Lee or a nice player in return, and that all will be okay.
It just pisses me off that I get all excited about a player who is reportedly coming to the Knicks e.g. Ty Thomas, or that Nate is essentially resigned, or that Lee may be traded, and then I hear Jamaal Tinsley's name mentioned in the same sentence as Donnie Walsh's name.
I know that Jonathan Bender and Jamaal Tinsley were both drafted by Walsh and they were "his" players in Indiana, but aren't there more pressing issues with Nate and David? Robinson's resigning was supposed to end our expensive quest for Ramon Sessions, and it took me 2 hours to deal with that! Then, the David Lee for Ty Thomas reports surfaces and I nearly jumped of the roof out of happiness that a resolution was imminient regarding our two RfAs.
I know I have absolutely no impulse control when it comes to the Knicks, music, and, sadly, women. But, can I get a little consistency from my local newspapers?

I suppose that when Nate signs, he will be primarily used as a shooting guard and will back-up Chandler and Hughes. I know that Tinsley's assist numbers were off the charts for a coupe of years and he may be an upgrade to Duhon, who I imagine would split back-up PG duties with Toney Douglas.
I am really concerned about this David Lee situation. It's not like I want the guy signed and traded, but, judging from his comments, he doesn't seemed satisfied with even a salary of $8,000,000 for one year. Does Lee think he is a better forward than Ron Artest? Lamar Odom? Rasheed Wallace?
I put David on the level of Charlie Villanueva in terms of salary, not necessarily playing ability. Charlie signed a deal for $7,000,000 a year for 5 years! I always thought that David Lee was a reasonable, clear-headed guy, but if the media reports are true and he is being tendered an offer for $7-$8 million for a one year deal because his greedy knuckle head agent thinks Dave is a $12,000,000 a year player, something is very wrong.
Maybe Walsh should withdraw all other offers except for the pittance of the $2.7 qualifying offer and then let's see how David really feels about playing hard-ball with the wrong man. And if Nate thinks he is worth more than $6,000,000 a year, let him freaking go to Greece while we hold his "Bird" rights...
I think Walsh is a GM who is doing the right job with every player on his roster. Most of these players, with the exception of the rookies and second/third year players are very modestly paid according to their contracts. Even Harrington has produced at a level close to what he is making while you cannot fault Donnie for Chubbsee Wubbsee or Jared Jeffries, since Zeke should be donating his salary to NY, not FSU, for making those moves.

I'm resigned to the fact that we will lose Lee. Im just hoping we can get Tyrus or Boozer. I would welcome Tinsley for a year if we lose Nate. Eddy will play this year and Walsh will ship him out like Randolph, for nothing. We are stuck with Jefferies unless, the Wizards take him back.

I like the new avatar Ken but what happens if the Knicks don't sign Von Wafer?
I think you should start warming up to the name "Morris Almond". It has a nice ring too. I can hear Clyde now...
"Almond is going nuts!" ; )

"Almond is going nuts!" ; ) If Von Wafer is not signed by NY, I'll change the avatar, and Mo Almond may be an excellent choice--talk about your great NBA names! Clyde would have a field day with "Morris is providing the fans with Almond Joy!" I really want to get rid of the Curry picture but it is under contract for two more seasons...

Ken
Good line on Almond. ; )
At least the "Whopper" picture is smaller. Maybe we can talk Rene into reducing his "KyrptoNate" poster a little. I have to wear shades to read his posts. ; )
One more Almond line.
"We were nuts to sign Almond!"
I hope we don't hear that one. ; )

when he can't guard his man, he'll be "Toasted Almond", Almond Paste..we can keep going with this but perhaps we should see if he makes the big team and then plays.

Rene mentioned that he was going to reduce it, but I said that it provided sort of a psychedelic feel--He genuinely loves Nate and maybe now, with a little gentle encouragement, he may reduce the 12,000 pixels that have enveloped our brains, LOL! "Crushed Almond Speaks to Coach about role" NY Post Headline "Knicks just nuts about Almond" NY Post Headline "Almond Canned By D'Antoni" ESPN Report Okay, I'll stop! I think I like Almond's name nearly as much as Von Wafer's.

I think Von's chances of signing with the Knicks are Wafer thin.

Wafer played real well with the Rockets last season when TMac went down. The kid has talent but he also has Jamal Crawford Disease. He never met a jumper he wouldn't take. ; ) He can create his own shot and he's more athletic than Almond. Almond is a much better shooter especially beyond the arc.
Sign them both and work it out in Training Camp.

BTW, it appears as if Mike D'Antoni wants Ramon Sessions and Donnie Walsh is looking at Jamaal Tinsley as a cheaper alternative, which is influenced by the fact of Donnie's history with Jamaal.
I wonder if this why Nate's signing, which was reported as just about done, has hit a snag?
Just speculation, but it seems as if there is a slight division among our coach and GM in terms of which way to go. I can see Walsh's point, all puns intended, but the Knicks do have to look beyond this season and D'Antoni's view of Sessions may be in line with what many NY fans are thinking. Who will be our starting PG in 2010?
Tinsley has offered to cut his salary demands for the chance to play in New York, according to RealGM. My only issue is that Sessions has not receved an offer from the Clippers or the Bucks, and we may be able to get Ramon for half the mid-level, which is what the Bucks are probably waiting for NY to do in terms of an offer sheet, so they could easily match.

Here's a crazy thought. What if Jamaal Tinsley is truly seriously about being our PG? Meaning he won't hang out with other NBA players who shoot handguns into the air for no reason or get into barroom brawls anymore?
Jamaal was supposed to meet with both Walsh and D'Antoni today and if both the coach and GM agree on Tinsley being a reformed person, he may end up being an extremely cheap addition, perhaps a vet's minimum for three years. Tinsley is 31, hasn't played in a long time, and if he still has the skills that made him a pass-first 1, maybe he's worth a shot. Maybe the vet's minimum for one year? Maybe he can play on a per game basis?
Hey, that's an innovation! Play for pay and eliminate the stupid salary cap, which only cripples team like the Knicks, who finally have enough money to get REAL PLAYERS into the Mecca, and $tern simply decides to shut down shopping for us.
This is unfair to LeBron, who won't be signing a contract extension with the Cavs, according to Marc Stein, and will explore FA options...Yeah, as if there are any other options, King! You were born to be a Knick and we traded Q for your number, and Toney Douglas made it clear that he will switch numerals with Von Wafer, once you sign your Knicks deal!
Mouse, do you really think that Von Wafer doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell to make the big team? Just imagine Von Wafer and Mo Almond in the same backcourt?
Clyde would go nuts! I didn't mean nuts in Almond, but he would be spinning those names like a DJ spins records...
