Kenny:
If true, Nate must have really wanted to stay in New York, especially since the Greece deal was double the money. I personally like Nate and we can't ignore the spark he brings off the bench. He needs to keep his cool and use his head a bit more. (Do I hear, Clyde mentoring) I should write a letter to Walsh and tell him for 20 years, he has a gem in Clyde at the Garden and traveling with the Knicks, he could be an excellent teacher. He offered to mentor jamal crawford years ago and the Knicks, in their ultimate blundering ways, ignored Clyde's offer.

I think the report on Nate's signing is pretty real, considering Robinson's public statement about wanting to return to the Knicks, his agents' denial that they initiated talks with the Greece team. Of course, Donnie Walsh's desire to sign his 2 restricted free agents to one year deals, makes this "rumor" seem quite valid to me. Yet, something else should be noted if Nate does sign the one year deal at that figure, and that is David Lee's dollars, if he, accepts Walsh's proposal of a one year qualifier. Since David is a starter and earlier reports noted that Walsh was going to offer $6,000,000 for the one year deal, I think the Knicks may increase the offer to Dave. I believe that Lee will be offered $7.5 million to $8,000,000 for a one year pact. I wouldn't be surprised if Walsh went even higher than $8 million, for that would allow NY to trade Lee for Boozer. My speculation is based on the prevailing Knicks' thinking that David is more important to the squad than Nate, has a much more mature attitude than Robinson, and, of course, to allow a Lee for Boozer trade to go through. If Utah is really interested in a David Lee for Carlos Boozer swap, Walsh can also simply stick to his guns, and ink David to the $6,000,000 one year deal and add Chris Duhon to the package. This makes the deal work perfectly. Utah gets an extremely competent reserve to give their star PG some rest, and they seem to covet David, despite signing Paul Millsap. I do believe that Walsh would have to sign Ramon Sessions to the rumored offer sheet involving the bulk of the Knick MLE ($4.5-$5 million a year) before Walsh can even think about pulling the trigger on a Lee/Duhon for Boozer package, since NY would only have Nate and Toney Douglas as their PGs. Douglas is unproven in terms of running a professional basketball squad, and Nate is, at best, a spot PG. As an aside, I went on the trade checker and plugged in Nate's $5,000,000 salary (I had to use Wilson Chandler plus Danilo Gallinari since Nate is not signed yet and their contracts are slightly higher than $5,000,000 combined) plus Jared Jeffries' contract. Nate and Jared can be traded for Carlos Boozer, if the Jazz felt that they didn't want David Lee, and wanted Robinson's instant offense as well as a versatile front court player in Jeffries. Obviously, this is not the rumored deal, which is a sign and trade of Lee for Carlos... I completely agree that the Knicks could use Clyde as a "PG Coach" and suggested this back on the old AOL board. From what I remembered, Clyde was asked about working with the players and made it known that he loved his job as color commentator. It's a shame, since Frazier knows exactly what our PGs are doing incorrectly and I remember him always saying this about Charlie Ward; "Charlie never dribbles to the center of the court...he inexplicably goes o his left and gets tied up because he stops his dribble." That is just one example of our HOF guard telling it like it is, and you know what? Ward never changed this bad habit. I never knew that Frazier had the chance to work with Crawford. If Clyde wanted to do this, the Knicks were so stupid in not taking advantage of Walt's knowledge of the position, let alone the NBA game...
