Calvin Murphy is in the Basketball Hall of Fame but like Bill Bradley he is in their more for his college exploits at Niagra than his pro career which was good but not HOF worthy.
Sessions is young. He shows a 3-1 Assist to Turnover rate and combines good size, astounding athleticism with a developing skillset that already includes the ability to involve his teammates. What isn't there to like about this kid? At worst he becomes Chris Duhon, a solid and reliable PG best suited for a backup role. At best he becomes more like Rajon Rondo. Anyone here not like Rondo? ; )
I like Nate but he has a Napoleonic chip on his shoulder the size of the island Elba. He's the little guy always proving himself which works on the playground but not so well in the NBA where the stakes are higher than one's ego. Athletically he is off the charts. His combination of jumping ability, quickness and strength is amazing and he has skills to go with that package. The thing with Nate is he will always be 5'8 and he has to start using his head and his body to overcome the one obstacle he cannot jump over. The analogy with Calvin Murphy is excellent. Murphy had swagger but he also was a team guy and he was smart on the court.
At some juncture Nate Robinson has to prove he can handle the PG role either off the bench or as a sometime starter. He has to lose the shoot first mentality and he has to lose the me first approach that gets him in so much trouble. Less mouth and more leadership. I have made this point time and time again but a lot of times you see Nate being chastised on the bench following one of his "exploits" and nearly always he is talking back and not listening. That is the Achille's Heel of Nate Robinson.
Andre Miller will do much better with Portland than NY and Jamal Tinsley will be much happier playing with Marbury in Italy. ; )
