This game was very poorly played by those wearing the Knicks jersey. It was a blowout after the 1st quarter as no one on the Knicks could hit a shot. The defense was mostly poor, but there were a couple of interesting tidbits to note.
Toney Douglas continues to impress with how he runs the offense. He could have had 15 assists if the players had knocked down the open looks that he created. On the negative side, he did not handle the pick and roll well defensively as he got caught on the big man defensively by going under instead of over the pick. Also, he does not have the range to make the NBA 3 point shot consistently. He needs to shoot mid-range jumpers for now. Clyde pionted out that he was so focused on setting up others that he did not really appear ready to score for himself. Donnie Walsh was interviewed in the 3Q and he noted that he was disappointed with Toney's shooting, but pleased with how he was running the team. Clyde also noted that Douglas took charge of the team and showed real leadership skills. Douglas is a player folks. He could very easily become the pass first point of the future.
Jordan Hill was the best player on the floor for the Knicks. He was more relaxed and showed a very good jump shot. It is clear that he prefers to face up to the basket and does not feel comfortable in the post. Hill has very good mechanics on his jumper. When he got set and did not rush, the shot looked good every time. He will be a high percentage jump shooter. ON the other hand, he did not box out against the Pistons and the got rebounds that he should have. That needs to improve. Hill is definitely an athlete who needs to work on footwork fundamentals to improve. He looks like he can contribute as a rookie, but will really blossom next year.
Tskitishvili can really shoot. He can also block shots. He does not do much else. The offense was much better when he was in the game as he spread the floor. I would invite him to camp as he could be a nice role player off the bench and at least a solid practice player.
Morris Almond is what we thought he was. He can shoot. He has trouble creating his own shot. He is an average defender as he plays with his hands instead of his feet too much. Donnie Walsh talked him up a lot in the interview. If I had to venture a guess, he will be on the regular season roster. He is a legit 6'5"/6'6" and has good range on his shot. Walsh talked about needing a true 2 guard and how they planned on trying Chandler there because they think Chandler can handle the position on defense, but that they were worried about his offense. Walsh then mentioned Almond as a possible solution at the 2. Folks, Almond is going to get every opportunity to make the team.
Everyone else stunk and is not worth the time to write about.
