I just wanted to check if this hypothetical trade in which Blob and Cuttino Mobley's 80% insured contract are dealt to Houston for T-Mac works under current CBA guidelines.
It does.
IMHO, I think that this is a trade that Houston should seriously consider. Both Yao and McGrady are seriously injured, Mobley will never play again, and the only player who will see court time would be Curry.
As T-Mac is in the his last contract year, and the Rockets are desperately need a center, and would be the beneficiaries of an 80% insured contract, Curry ends up costing Houston very little for this season. While they would inherit the extra year in Edward's contract, they will have a center.
Obviously, NY gets rid of Curry and his two year "player option" contract. The Knicks are now in the position to sign Lebron James as well as Bosh or Wade in 2010. They may also be able to retain David Lee as well.
This is a win-win deal for both teams...

The easiest trade in blogosphere is always usually the one never done especially being a Knicks fan however with that said I believe if Donnie puts the word in the Rockets owner ear enough being a seasoned GM we should get this done. So we'll see.

So we'll see. Very true. I just keep thinking of that Alan Hahn twitter which put the idea in my head about this Curry/Mobley package going to the Rockets for T-Mac. 99.7% of these hypothetical deals never come to fruition, no matter how much we pray as Knick fans. The 4th of July weekend is always the most difficult one for me to deal with, since nothing happens until the next business day, LOL!

It is amazing the options NY does have to acquire T-Mac. The following trades all work on RealGM:
Al Harrington/Eddy Curry for McGrady. I didn't know this but Harrington is actually younger than T-Mac and he is off the books as is Tracey after this season. Harrington fills the 3 position and Eddy will be the Rockets center until Yao is healed.
Al Harrington/Cuttino Mobley: I am not a fan of this one at all, but it does work. We are really helping Houston out and if this proposal was ever even disvussed, New York must get a 2010 first round pick back from the Rockets, at the very least.
Mobley/Curry/Chandler: This is the worst case scenario for NY, but one which may need to be scrutinized, if the Rockets balk at Curry. Once again, there needs to be a first round pick for 2010 coming back to NY in this one.
Curry/Hughes: I love this deal, which means there is no way Houston would consider it.

Not change the subject but if we offered Nate and Jeffries to Sac town(Sacremento) do you think they would allow us to take Tyreke Evans with Kenny Thomas. Then your Hughes deal with Curry would work. We'd essentially have SG if Hughes left now. Speaking of which does anyone realize SG is going to be the biggest need for team even though the best players are mostly 3's and 4's and 5's next year?

Speaking of which does anyone realize SG is going to be the biggest need for team even though the best players are mostly 3's and 4's and 5's next year? -Jason Hey Jason... I'm glad the subject changed since I just was on NBA Twitter, and Alan Hahn (Newsday) as did another sports writer who covers the Sacramento Kings, spoke about the Kings' organization's desire for both Nate Robinson as well as David Lee. However, you are bringing up what is still considered a viable trade, which would be Jared Jeffries/Nate for Kenny Thomas. Hahn commented that he found it puzzling that the Knicks didn't do this deal when it was initially broached, as Sacramento were the ones who coveted both players and the Knicks were looking for expiring contracts, which Kenny Thomas has. Hahn mentioned that the original deal is still on the table from the Kings point of view. Now, adding Tyreke Evans to the picture, would probably make Walsh pull the trigger on this deal. I wholeheartedly agree with you that we need a bonifide 2, even if Wilson Chandler is slotted for the position this season. Evans is a valuable chip, and while the Kings are basically getting Nate for free, they are taking Jeffries off the Knicks hands. IMHO, New York would have to part with Jordan Hill or Wilson Chandler in order to get Tyreke Evans, and salary-wise, I think this deal would work. However, the Kings are looking to get tougher in the middle and David Lee is someone who they truly covet. In all honesty, I would do the following deal; Nate, Lee, and Jeffries for Kenny Thomas and Tyreke Evans. Everything is contingent upon what David Lee will get from NY, and, according to other writers on Twitter, Lee is actually not Portland's first choice at all and one writer swore that Lee would never end up there. It has been speculated that Dave may have to settle for mid-level type money, possibly a little bit more. If Lee is signed for $6.5 million a year by NY and then traded, Nate accepts the qualifying Knicks offer which is under $3,000,000, and a trade is made, including Jeffries, for Thomas and Evans, I think Walsh should do it. Whether or not the Kings agree, is another story. However, I had no idea how much David is coveted by Sacramento until I read a Sacramento Kings' sports-writer's article on how the two players are on the King's radar. The amount of money the Knicks would be saving by not having to pay Lee or Nate and getting back a potentially terrific combo guard such as Evans, would be a coup de gras for the organization. If that proposal was accepted, then I would do Curry/Mobley for T-Mac, as the Rockets would be basically saving 40% of salary with Cuttino's contract and taking Eddy off of our hands. McGrady may not play a second for NY due to his injuries but we accomplish what many deem impossible, which is getting rid of two cap crippling contracts in Jeffries/Curry. The Knicks are assured of Lebron/Bosh or Wade or possibly all three, since the Knicks cap would have an additional $19,000,000 simply by getting rid of the Blimp and Jeffries deals. The gain for the Rockets is an 80% insured contract and a center, which is that team's goal. If Curry did indeed lose 30 pounds and can play the pivot, Houston would bite at this deal. Of course, Walsh may want a 2010 draft pick in return, but I cannot see the organization turning their collective heads at this hypothetical deal. I'd keep Larry Hughes, since his deal runs out in 2010 and he falls off our cap, just like Harrington's. The Knicks can basically reshape their team around their existing core of Chandler, Gallo, Darko, Hill, Douglas, and Saer Sene. Add Tyreke Evans, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and possibly D-Wade, and we are talking another championship for NY. For 2010 5-Darko/Sene/Hill 4-Bosh/Hill 3-LeBron/Chandler/T-Mac (if he is healthy) 2-Wade/Tyreke Evans/Chandler/T-Mac 1-Tyreke Evans/Toney Douglas This is my dream team.

Wait a minute Ken. You proposed that we'd be able to afford 3 max deals? With Wade, Bosh AND Lebron? How on earth with only the removal of Curry and Jeffries could we afford three max deals? Two maybe but all three of the biggest free agents?
And correct me if I'm wrong but dont we have a trade exception from the Z-bo deal or the Balkman deal respectively.
I think we can't settle for anything less than being competitive this season and try to shhot for the 6th seed at least. I think if we can pull a few low key moves and at least compete for that. Realistically you can't go on the full strength everyone will only sign cause they like donnie Walsh and Mike d'antoni, because the reality is that the cap is shrinking and we REALLY shouldn't now that I think about hinge a whole championship movement on the summer of 2010. Activity has hurt Isiah Thomas' blurred vision of what a team should resemble. But the counter argument to that is if we had a smarter GM/president of bball ops/coach, we wouldnt have been upset with better moves a draft picks that was out there.
So I say all that to say, Walsh's inactivity to gather low risk and low cost, high IQ assets now will mean alot to what we can add next summer and just putting all ours eggs in one basket is both one sided wheen we are the only team that has there business strategy in the press everyday in print and visual media, and everything inlcuding the shrinking of the cap plus another team trying to sabatoge us with a better deal than just endorsements and the broken dowwn Garden could have us end up woth Dirk instead of Bosh. And the oft injured Manu instead of Wade. Or Marion instead of lebron.
So we need to be careful in out subtlety and our aggression these next two years.

Kenny I love the cap impact of that trade alot ,Tyreke is the young talent with great cap numbers we need instead of Lee,N8 and Jeffries large cap number,I would love this trade it solves alot of cap problem with one stroke and can make us better too,Tyreke is a real good talent, plus we get very good cap room for 3010,all that would be left to do is get rid of fatso and get Rubio and we are done pre Lebron era.

Jason...
Rene said it in his first sentence. Cap impact. I am effectively dumping the Blob ($11.37 Million), Jared Jeffries (6.8 Million), N8 ($2.9 Million--qualifying offer), and Lee (2.7 Million). Harrington, Hughes, Mobley, Darko (Possibly), and Duhin fall off our payroll by summer of 2010. The Knicks will only have Gallo, Chandler, Toney Douglas, and Jordan Hill under contracts.
Saer Sene will sign a very low contract. Add $15,000,000, $15,000,000, $15,000,000=the maximum NY can give LeBron, Wade, and Bosh and you get $45,000,000, which is $10,000,000 below the cap, enough for NY to pay Gallo/Chandler/Hill/Douglas/Sene/Evans.
The Knicks now have their 8-9 man rotation. The CBA/NBA projections for next year's salary cap will be around $55,000,000, according to what I read this morning.
Donnie Walsh fills out the remaining 5 slots with low cost players like Crawford, Hunter, maybe even Patrick Ewing, Jr., and a veteran player.
Yeah, I am proposing getting all three, and I think Donnie has a shot at accomplishing this goal.
We have to remember that, apart from Gallo/Chandler, this Knicks team will be brand new in 2010-2011.
Jason, you mention the broken down Garden? This is the Mecca of professional basketball, and Zeke is no longer destroying our franchise. In his short tenure, Donnie has got rid of two overrated players with fat contracts and has only started to work with the flexability of expiring contracts. NONE of THESE USELESS PLAYERS will be here come 2010-11, and between now and next summer, Donnie will continue to reach out to other GMs whose teams are fiscally crumblng.
Bosh wants out of Toronto so bad that he can smell it. Wade is starting to distance himself from Miami, and the common denominator is LeBron. All will accept less money if necessary, and we have a 10 deep team, one with PLAYERS.
I only looking at cap-room. No player on this Knicks team, as it stands now, is invaluable. No one.

Let me go on record that this trade proposal (TMac for Curry and Mobley) is why I love this medium. It's an inspired idea from Ken and he's not on the Knicks payroll. ; ) It's brilliant and practical out of the box thinking. Bravo Ken!!!

I actually believe, as does Alan Hahn of Newsday, that there is some smoke to this Curry + the 80% insured Mobley contract than some may think. Will also noted that the Rockets GM wanted to actually see Curry tonight in Vegas. I only hope that Curry's corset was set on extra-tight and that the reality of Yao's season and possibly career-ending injury, makes this hypothetical dream deal come true. Here is where Donne Walsh's creativity can come in. Curry/Harrington works for T-Mac as well. Houston must replace a lot of offense and the Knicks need to ensure FA signing position in the summer of LeBron. BTW, Bosh signed an extension with the Raptors which makes me hope that Jordan Hill is the nex King of The Hill... LeBron and Wade is 2010.

My dream deal which works is Curry,Jeffries and Mobley for T-Mac.If Eddie shows improvement I would love DW to pull this move thereby solving all our cap problems with one stroke.Jeffries would play center for them too along with Curry this deal might be possible and DW would be exec of the year.
