I don't know why I didn't bring this up earlier, but Lee can be signed for $10,000,000 per (not that I would advocate that), and his contract can be front-loaded or, preferably back-loaded. This was discussed in a few articles on line and in the NY papers, and Lee is comfortable with this notion, as is his hustling agent Mark Bartlestein.
If Lee signs a $7.5 million dollar contract for 4 years, Donnie Walsh can simply pay him an amount in 2010-11 that would not impact the Knicks payroll in any substantial way. If Lee is retained, the numbers can be adjusted any way both parties agree. As long as David is on a guaranteed contract, what difference does it make for him?
2010's Summer remains intact, the Knicks still have Lee for this year to mentor the rookie, Hill (unless we just sign and trade David, which seems stupid unless it is for Bosh), the team is still improved over last year's version, and all parties get what they want.
Now, I have to go back to the Eddy Curry situation. I have proposed many times the idea of a buy-out. On a NY Daily News blog, some guy obviously is thinking the same thing, as he wrote that since Eddy's home in Illinois is under foreclosure, now is the perfect time to get rid of both the player and his contract.
Curry's contract would still be on the Knicks books for 2 more years; however, if the buy-out figure, as an example, is $10,000,000, $5,000,000 would be charged to this season and
$5,000,000 would be charged to the crucial 2010-2011 season.
However, and here is the beauty of the CBA, only 34% or 35% of that $5,000,000 buy-out figure for both years would "count" against the Knicks salary cap! If Fat Ass accepts a buy-out offer, and he is desperate now to save his mansion and probably his life, his final year would only counts as approximately $1.5 million dollars!
This is obviously Walsh's final option, but knowing that Curry needs money and needs it now, the Knicks should just get this problem over and done with.
Dolan paid Marbs close to $19,000,000 to go to Boston. I cannot see why he wouldn't just do this to get rid of an uninspired, obese, and troubled player with more distractions than desires to improve. I am not without sympathy but NY must, as a last resort, buy Eddy Curry out, in order to save our summer of splurge...
