Thats still the vibe and Richard Jefferson once said Jason wanted to be a Knick someday.
Kidd just turned 36 on March 23. His game hasn't gone down except he doesn't shoot or score as much-but he has never been a terrific scorer in his career.
As hes gotten older his 3 point shot has improved to 39% and 40% the last 2 years as has his FT% at 82%. His defense has gotten better as well reflected in better steal and blocking numbers the past 2 years.
But Kidd has always been an assist man with incredible passing and court vision. His ATO is nearly 4.0. An ATO of 3 is considered great.
Kidd automatically upgrades this team and like Steve Nash, who turned 35 in February, he can make players better. His minutes can be cut as he gets older but his time on the court will still be better than anything the Knicks have had at PG in years. Maybe as far back as Mark Jackson.

RJ was interviewed on a NY sports radio program yesterday and said that Kidd will be a Knick--then immediately was questioned if Jason said that to him, and Jefferson said, "No, no, no...I was just saying..." I completely agree with your post, and I think Kidd would upgrade us at PG, in visability, in being a serious team with serious intentions, and as a lure for other players that we want. Who, and I mean, who in the NBA would not want to play with a Hall of Fame PG? Especially a couple of guys who will be FAs in 2010. ; )

Offering Kidd 18mil/3 year contract jeopardizes the re-signing of David Lee and the signing of two major free agents in 2010. I don't like it! I hope he goes back to Dallas. I don't want a 37-38-39 year old point guard who offers no defense even if he makes the team somewhat better in the short term. Only way I want this deal to go through is if a Curry package is on its way to Houston. Even then, I am not sold on it.

I do not think Kidd will accept a $12,000,000 salary cut, which I think is the approximate figure if he did accept a three year MLE from the Knicks. Yet, if he did take NY's MLE, the Knicks become credible as a franchise, a further reason for NY to sign both LeBron and another elite FA, and NY, IMHO, makes the playoffs this season. Duhon is not an NBA starting PG, and while I am not a J-Kidd lover for many reasons, he is a HOF PG who is in pretty good physical shape, despite his age. He is head and shoulders above Chris in talent, and gives NY their best PG since Mark Jackson. Even at 36 years of age. Regarding the signing of David Lee, I mentioned previously that if the Knicks intend on keeping him, his contract can be structured in such a way that his salary for 2010-11 would not significantly impact any FA signing. It can be back-loaded or front-loaded, sort of like a mortgage. This is why I am not so worried about his status. I also think that Lee can be signed for a reasonable amount and that this FA market is only going to help NY retain Lee if Walsh decides to keep him. Nate Robinson, according to everything I've read, will either accept the Knicks qualifying offer which is, if memory serves, $2.5 million, for 2009-10 or he will simply be packaged with Jared Jeffries to the Kings. Or NY can simply trade him for a 2010 first round draft pick to any of the other teams like Portland, who have shown interest in him. My gut feeling tells me that Eddy Curry will be bought out of his contract, as the player is in huge financial trouble. I think Walsh and D'Antoni have had enough of this guy, and, honestly, Curry has effectively destroyed any relationship with the NY fan base. I would love it if the Knicks would explore acquiring the 23 year old Ramon Sessions, who dismantled NY last season and completely overwhelmed Duhon. This youngster is one of the Bucks RFAs, and I have no idea why Milwaukee just let Charlie Villaneuva walk away, so one can see that the Bucks continue to make asinine player moves. Charlie V guy just signed a bargain FA deal which is far less than what David Lee's insane agent wants for his client, and Charlie has an offensive game which commands attention. Perhaps, as rumored, the Knicks may take a shot at Sessions, who made a million last year, and may be worth an offer sheet that Milwaukee cannot or will not match. Or sign and trade Nate Robinson for Sessions.
