I think the Knicks will take back a contract for Lee that extends into 2010 if it is a guy they think can fit the team. Travis Outlaw is an athletic small forward the likes of Marion so he is a fit though he is a player always on the "cusp" of something better than he has shown.
I like the way Walsh is playing it which is what he said from the beginning. He is waiting for the market to set a price for David Lee and not overreacting ala Alan Houston.
Hey Bill...
I hope you didn't get as fat as Eddy on your little vacation, although I just cannot imagine you spending your time at the Dairy Queen or the eateries that are now in a financial crunch do to Curry's reported 30 pound weight loss, which no one can confirm, for some reason!
I think that the market for PFs has already been set with the Artest, Wallace, and Villanueva signings. Portland, from what I read, is very wary of signing David because the also want to snag Andre Miller, who IMHO, will be gone if the Trailblazers wait the requisite 10 days for Donnie Walsh to make the counter-offer to Bartlestein and David.
I believe that David Lee will remain a Knick, albeit for a much lower price than previously discussed. As one newspaper said, the Knicks are sitting pretty on this scenario, as Lee wants to remain in NY, his model girlfriend is based here, and most importantly, Walsh would have to agree to a sign and trade. IMHO, I think NY doesn't need more SFs, with Chandler, Harrington, and possibly Grant Hill filling that position.
If David Lee is to be signed and traded, I would rather see Andre Miller coming back to be our PG. Although Miller is 34, he is a top ten PG in the NBA. I do not know if he is an RFA like Lee, but Portland can sign Miller and trade for David, if the numbers work. I do not like the garbage contracts Portland want to dump on us like Steve Blake for David. Lee is worth much more than reserve PGs who are basically Chris Duhon in a different uniform...
I am not sure if Toronto's acquisition of Turkoglu can count as a measuring stick in terms of David Lee's market value, for Hedu wanted to go to a place which is a 6 hour flight from Turkey, play in a city where there is an international "flair", have his wife comfortable in an environment which suits her and their family, and be a starter on a lowly NBA team. Turk actually would have made more money had he signed with Portland, despite the $3,000,000 extra the Raptors gave him, given the Canadian taxes which will eat up that salary quicker than Eddy Curry eats pizzas...
