One more day before teams can start negotiating with free agents and we get to see what the Knicks do with Lee and Nate. DA... The NY Post is reporting that Donnie Walsh will offer Nate the qualifying offer, since the team president doesn't believe that other teams will be spending so much on a 5'7 1/2 guard this year. He also is taking, according the rag, a hard line approach with his limit on David Lee, which was cited as $7,000,000 per for 6 years. Berman (Post) thinks that the aforementioned NY/Sacramento Jarred Jeffries/Nate Robinson sign and trade for Kenny Thomas trade will be revisited. I think this may be a positive trade in that close to $9,000,000 will be saved for the summer of 2010, if both Jeffries and Nate do go to the Kings. I am having trouble accessing The NY Daily News, but Jason Kidd and his agent will be meeting with NY today, and it appears Walsh will offer Kidd the mid-level exception. It certainly looks as if the Knicks run at Rubio may have ended or is in limbo for right now. I can live very well with Walsh using a one year MLE deal with Kidd, who is a HOF PG and will put Chris Duhon in his rightful place as substitute PG. Duhon will be a valuable BACK-UP and if Kidd agrees to the MLE offer, I think we can expect LeBron running here in 2010 to ink a deal--so maybe Kidd gets a 2 year MLE. Nate Robinson reportedly will accept the qualifying offer for one year. I see this as a smart move by Nate in that the economy is bad and he will play his best since this will now be his walk year, even if it with the Kings. If NY keeps Nate at the paltry qualifying numbers, we will see a far better behaved, more controlled, better Nate in New York, for exiling him to Sacramento is probably the worst fate Nate wants. David Lee is an entirely different story, according to The NY Post. Walsh will do a sign and trade, IMHO, no matter what. D'Antoni loved Lee, but was quoted as not loving Lee's jumper which I agree. I love the General, but Bosh in 2010 negates the need for David, unless he accepts a multi-year deal with NY for $7,000,000 or less. Berman and Lee's agent believe Lee may want to remain in NY because his hot girlfriend, Sabrina, loves the city. This may play a huge role in David's decision, for Toronto is not where his lady wants to model... Remember, what I wrote is my 2 cents, as well as relying on Marc Berman's writing, which had I owned a parrot, he or she would be using Berman's articles as a toilet... Thanks, my esteemed comrade, for starting this thread for tomorrow is a crucial day for Knicks History, IMHO.

looking forward to see what Walsh does. I hope he packages Nate/Jefferies somewhere. If no Dlee for 7-8mil, then sign and trade for a nice 2010 draft pick. Sign Kidd- he's our starting PG, perfect system for him, Duhon spells him. Next year we sign Bosh/Lebron and they'd be pumped if Kidd was here.

I think that the report of Nate accepting the Knicks qualifying offer will allow Walsh more flexibility in doing a sign and trade with the Kings. I would love to see the expiring contract of Kenny Thomas (The Kings' Malik Rose) coming here with a King's 2010 first round pick--maybe a conditionally protected one. The key is to get cap space and get rid of Jeffries. About J-Kidd. I was initially extremely excited when I wrote about his meeting tomorrow with Walsh, then I saw that the Knicks were also interested in that kid Sessions from the Bucks, who dismantled us last season, and who I think will be a star in the NBA within 4 years. The Bucks tendered a qualifying offer to him, but he was making only a million bucks last year. I started thinking about a sign and trade with Milwaukee, but then got rejuvenated when I thought about Kidd being attractive bait for Bosh and LeBron. Right now, I'm with you about J-Kidd. I think the MLE is his for the asking, and I am not so sure Dallas will extend Kidd this type of offer. I just don't want a multi-year pact--maybe J-Kidd for two years at the MLE. Our PG problems would be solved with Kidd/Duhon.

K- I think Dant wants guys with high IQ's in here, and Nate isn't one of them, so Im down with getting rid of him and Jefferies in one swoop. Look at Kidd's #'s, not too shabby, and not that off from 4 years ago. I'd sign him for 3 years def, I'd give him the MLE, now Cuban will offer him 7-8 I think. So if Im Walsh, Im working on getting him another 2-3million in endorsements if he stays in NYC near his kids. Kidd adds 10 wins to our club by showing up. Now that T-mac rumor would be sweet.
KIDD/Duhon/Douglas T-Mac/Hughes Chandler/Gallinari Gallinari/Harring/Hll Harrington/Darko/Curry
this line-up gives Utah the 16th pick and not the 8th. We sign and trade D-Lee, trade Harrington for someone with a brain, Curry comes into shape and Walsh trades him for a shorter and we are in business.

Excellent analysis of basketball IQ being Nate's short-coming, as it is Al Harrington's. Walsh always liked smart players which is why I seriously doubt Nate has a chance to return, even if he accepts the qualifying Knicks offer. I initially thought a 2 year deal at the mid-level would be fine for J-Kidd; now, I am reading that Cuban is ready to ante up $8,000,000 for Kidd and NY only has the MLE, although we need to factor in Jason's love of NY, the chance to play with LeBron and Bosh/Wade, and the Knicks' apparent pursuit of Ramon Sessions, who may be a star, but is a RFA, and the Bucks already simply let Charlie V walk away. J-Kidd knows that he will be on the billboards in NY. Now, I like T-Mac purely for salary reasons and if we can do the deal Rene proposed e.g. Jeffries, Fat Ass, and maybe a 2012 or after first round conditionally protected pick, I am totally down for that. I am unsure as to whether T-Mac will play this year due to his injury, but he was pretty down about what happened to him, and, no offense to Houston, but NY would light a fire under T. Maybe Walsh is dangling Lee and Jeffries? I love your proposed line-up, and would love it more if we can dump Eddy Curry for an actual human being...Boy, this is the start of a very exciting summer for NY, and you are right. We must be significantly better so Utah doesn't get a steal in next year's draft. If we make the playoffs with a 12 game improvement this year, the pick would be in the range you noted...

"and would love it more if we can dump Eddy Curry for an actual human being..."
spit my coffee out on that one, classic. I think we need Kidd more than Lee at this point. Kidd give us instant cred, he can run like he wants to and doesnt have to play D. He's having lunch with Jeter, unlimited "honeys" and he is NY's transitional savior. We win another 10-12 games with him easy, "he's the reason". who cares if he's old, he still better than anyone we've had in the past 30 years. LBJ/Bosh anyone will think twice, hmmmhh... Dantoni system, + Kidd, or Delonte West and Mike Brown?

Ax, Sorry about the coffee, but hopefully you didn't get any on your keyboard, like I do!
I agree that we need Kidd for all of the reasons you cited, and more. He is in excellent physical shape, unlike the time we re-signed Mark Jackson when he was in his mid-late 30s. Kidd is a HOF PG and to have him on the team, would be crucial this year and next year, when we splurge on our stars. Lee is not invaluable, and can be either traded or signed to a reasonable deal. I think $7,000,000 is a good price, and give him a 4 year deal. If he wants to play in Oklahoma, fine. We do a sign and trade for a 2010 draft pick, since they are under the cap and we do not have to take any garbage contracts back.
LOL at Delonte West versus Jason Kidd!
