Just read on RealGM that during the draft the Clippers and Grizzlies agreed in principal to a deal that centered around Zach Randolph and Darko Milicic with Greg Buckner's name being involved as well. Donald Sterling apparently stopped the potential trade and Memphis then pulled the trigger on the deal for Q. This was reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

The CLips have way too many front court men. WIth Griffen they have Camby, Kaman, and Zach Randolph. All are starters with big contracts. They needed to get rid of one for a shorter contrcat.
The one they want to depart is Camby, who is now a backup player with Kaman getting healthy.
I think the Grizz may have been an equal part of the breakdown in the trade, having to assume Zach Randolphs contract.

I am skeptical they were that close to a deal. If Sterling backed out, as reported, he only proves what we have all known since he bought the Clippers. He is a tool. Thank Goodness too because James Dolan would be the worst NBA owner if it wasn't for Sterling consistently beating him out for the top, or is it bottom, spot. ; )
