For those who may have missed it, the Summer League has come and gone, but our Knicks made it to the Finals where we lost to Portland.
A few quick notes from what I saw when I watched the games.
1. Grimes has been working on his handling. He is decidedly better going to his right than his left. So, he still has a lot of work to do. That being said, the quality defense was on display and he was the Knicks best player.
2. McBride is still a poor man's Greg Anthony. He plays intense defense, but his game on offense is still weak. He struggles to create off the dribble and his shot is still inconsistent. He should expect to spend a lot of time in the G league learning to tighten his handle and shoot over size in the paint.
3. Jericho Sims was a man in the summer league. He defended and rebounded with ferocity. His dives to the rim were strong as was his finish. He REALLY needs to work on his free throws. They were a disaster. OTOH, he showed a bit of a handle and some rudimentary post moves. He looks ready to be Mitch's regular backup.
4. Trevor Keels did not look ready to provide any minutes this year. His defense was solid and he showed a good handle, but he was rushing his shot and had too many turnovers when trying to pass off the bounce. He needs to adjust to the speed of the game. But, as I have said before, we should not expect anything from him this year. Next season, he should be able to be a bench player and it should be his 3rd season before we should expect real contributions.
The rest of the roster had their moments but also tended to look not ready for prime time when played tough.
