I don’t understand this move unless there are more to come. We traded a guy at the end of the bench in Knox for someone who theoretically should be in the rotation when guys we have in the rotation are arguably not getting the minutes we want them to. If more guys are going to be packaged for an upgrade then I get it, otherwise it will be a free Reddish situation.

Another solid piece but not THE piece the Knicks need to move to another level of play.
The Knicks will likely cut Solomon Hill and with multiple first round picks they won't miss the one they sent to Atlanta. I hear the Hawks also wanted Quentin Grimes. Kudos to Leon Rose for holding on to him as he is a promising young player.
So what do we get with Cam Reddish?
A legitimate 6'8 small forward with great athleticism and length with a wingspan of 7'1. In short the guy we all hoped Kevin Knox would be. Cam has excellent ball handling skills and a pretty good shot. Most of his issues are mental. He takes a backseat when maybe he belongs in the front seat which in this case is starting. The Knicks have a lot of wings in the 6'5 to maybe 6'7 (RJ) range but Cam gives them legitimate length and athleticism which is something the Knicks desperately need. He can finish, he has a nice midrange game and he plays defense. More deals have to be in the making because the Knicks need a star like player to tie this all together. Could it be a Duke teammate of RJ and Cam? Is that the long game here?
I hope not. Zion Williamson is a great player but he will always have health issues. He's been rehabbing his foot and it looks like he gained weight. No bueno. But one thing is for sure IMHO. Barrett is off the table. He's the ONLY Knick off the table which means Randle is available. Of course Obi Toppin has to discover where his game went to make Randle expendable unless the trade is for another PF. It should be interesting to see what the Knicks do next.

If a blockbuster is coming, they will want RJ first. If no trade is forthcoming I like others am curious about minutes. Too many good but not great players.

Cam Reddish, at a minimum, should turn into a high-quality 3 and D under Thibs with passing ability and ball handling on the upside.
That being said, most of his problems are physical, not mental. The kid played through a cracked rib when he was at Duke and they designed plays to get HIM the last-second shot because of his mental toughness. He is just a long, lean body type that gets injured easily.
He is not afraid of the big moment as Duke would run plays for him late in the game. He has a really good-looking jump shot and has good ball-handling abilities. He is a good finisher on the break and can run the fast break.
His negatives are his shot selection which tends to be poor. He tends to drift on offense when he does not have the ball as he does not have good movement on offense without the ball. He can be a little turnover-prone with his passing because he tries to thread the needle rather than make the safe pass.
I expect Thibs to force him to focus on defense and 3 point shooting like with Grimes. Reddish will respond to hard coaching. If Knox had Reddish's toughness, then he would have been a player. Reddish is not soft. The upside on this deal is huge, but we might not see it until next year. It will definitely help Reddish to play with RJ again.
I think that at the end of the day, he turns into a younger, longer version of Burks.

He's a talented young player who defends, gets to the basket and can shoot the 3, at the 3. I don't think we got him to start but to replace possibly Fournier or Burks as they play similar positions as apart of a greater deal. We are allegedly shopping or receiving offers for Mitch and Noel too so look for more deals. But this is a low risk high reward deal. There's no downside to it also when you consider we got an expiring deal in Solomon Hill who they will waive because he's out for the year.. We heavily protected the pick 18 this summer top 16 the next years after that.

I do believe the Knicks are setting themselves up for more trades but Cam is a keeper. He has all the talent in the world and there were a few pre-draft murmers he might be better than Zion and RJ down the road. I am sure RJ had some input here as to his capabilities.
What I meant by saying Cam had some mental issues I meant to say with his talent he should be the starting Hawks SF. To me poor shot selection is a mental issue and not stepping past some of his competition does raise a flag BUT in his defense he is young and most of the people who said he might be the best of the 2020 Dookie draft picks thought he might need some time.
Like Kevin Knox.
I am thrilled to get Cam on the Knicks and certainly steady PT will accelerate the growth process. Kid has a lot of skills and he's a two way player which Thibs loves.

It us highly likely that the protected number one pick we gave up becomes two second round picks when it finally is activated by Atlanta.
