I think we need to face the fact that neither Walker nor Fournier have panned out, a concern I raised in the predictions thread. Advanced stats in this case Win Shares have borne this out, which is to say that Leon Rose made a lateral move at best. The Knicks defense has been utterly atrocious and it seems to me that if Fournier is not benched then Rose’s character comes to our attention. He made a mistake and he should own it, unless he is able to parlay these contracts into something far, far more promising. Randle doesn’t have the right teammates around him; at the same time, he doesn’t possess the basketball mind or vision of a true franchise player. Some of you might disagree.
But if you agree then we need either (a) better 2nd and 3rd options, ideally sneaky good 50/49/90 guys like Malcolm Brogan or (b) a true franchise player who would shift Randle to a second fiddle role which he is surely capable of being on a title contender. But on this team he suffers.
If you can convert these contracts then great: Walker, Fournier, Knox, Gibson, Quickley, Rose. Tough asset list. I know tanking is no longer rewarded but sheesh.
