I am so looking forward to the first game of the season! Don't be shocked though about any lack of posts for the next few days as my wife and I are headed to our first excursion in 4 years. That's right. FOUR years! Date night for us has been a trip to Walmart.
We look after my wife's 87 year old mother and as she is not able to get out much that and COVID-19 have limited our ability to travel anywhere so tomorrow we head on a road trip to Savannah, Georgia to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary that happened last week. It's only 200 miles away but to us it's like going to the moon.
I am under instruction that there will be no TV during this 4 day get away and only brief checks on ESPN to see how the Knicks have done. Which is cool. A lot of moving parts are involved including a sister in law traveling from New Jersey to watch Mom for the duration of our trip which comes at the perfect time as my frontline wife is showing signs of stress from the pandemic. Four days away in a beautiful city neither of us have been to along with actual alone time with my wife and some great eating plus some adult beverages should go a long way towards recharging everyone's batteries. No more living vicariously through Mark's many travels!!
Back to the Knicks. I watched both games last night and it was delightful to see Brooklyn and the Lakers lose. But watching the ease of which KD got anywhere he wanted to on the court along with watching noted Knicks killers Patty Mills and Joe Harris splashing threes all over the place gave me little satisfaction the Nets were getting their asses handed to them. They are deep and they are good even without Irving. Harden didn't have a good night but even a bad night from him is a little frightening. The Nets have depth too but they lack cohesion and their defense and rebounding suck.
I was not alone in saying trading for Westbrook is a mistake. He is amongst the most talented players in the world but he just doesn't fit in with his average jump shot and penchant for forcing things. It's early yet but I doubt Westbrook is able to change his spots. They say he was nervous in his Laker debut. I say he was in mid-season form.
Milwaukee and Golden State play a lot like the Knicks only they have Giannis and Steph. Talent is great but teamwork makes that talent work and both the Bucks and Warriors showed talent and teamwork is better than talent alone.
