He def looks in even better shape than before. Stamina means strength of mind in the clutch. Not a huge fan of his release though-- looks a little funky to me. Sometimes that works but god help you if you start "thinking." I have high hopes for his quickness/strength ratio for defense. He was pretty good last season and looks to be even more effective 21-22.

He’s going to be asked to change a lot this year, now that the Knicks finally have a legitimate point guard in Kemba Walker. Last year he took it to the next level by cutting out the senseless dribbling into double and triple teams to find the open man, but this year he even has to cut down on all the one on one stuff too and focus more on catching and shooting. Has to be a tough adjustment when you know the guy guarding you can be beaten, but the ball won’t be in his hands as much and he has to accept it. Based on everything I know about him though, he’ll make this adjustment seamlessly.

You crazy Trend? 😎 Randle’s release is almost picture perfect. 😎 Did you attend the Dennis Rodman School of Shooting because in that case I guess Julius DOES have a funky release. 😎 To the rest of us it’s a classic release that puts good arc and spin on the ball and not torquing it to either side. It’s also been observed Randle has quickened up his release a bit. Still think he looks like The Captain shooting the ball. As to Mark’s point indeed things should be easier for Randle on offense with Kemba. Both Knicks bigs should profit with easier baskets off the pick and roll and with Walker running the point Randle should get more mismatch opportunities not having to worry as much about setting up teammates.

Call me crazy but that isn't a pure stroke. Looking closely a second and third time it's not only the release it's actually everything else leading up to the release. His feet are not planted great, he drifts slightly to his right. Remember how I kept harping on that drive to the right baseline/fall out of bounds shot? It doesn't look picture perfect to me. Maybe someone else would like to weigh in. As to Walker running this team... I am not so sure how well the team will gel, let alone Walker and Randle. I didn't like what he did in Boston.

Can he get back to back most improved he would have to be MVP candidate,if his midrange is on he could very well be unstoppable and he has improved his handle while getting in better shape,I think he died out at years end cause of overuse.

It is now settled. You are crazy.
I rewatched the video AGAIN. The footwork is excellent. His feet are shoulder wide and the strong foot slightly forward. He drifts on certain shots off the bounce but he compensates for it. On most of his jump shots Julius goes straight up. The release is excellent. The only complaint I have about Julius Randle is he forced some shots but given the fact he shot a very respectable 46% from the field and 41% beyond the arc and a lot of those forced shots were because the offense wasn't always cohesive he gets a pass.
On Kemba Walker he is an offense first PG and the Knicks need offense but he is also an excellent pick and roll or pop player and the Knicks last season were not a good pick and roll team. With less playmaking responsibilities Julius will get more easy opportunities because of Kemba as will Mitch. As for his brief time in Boston it should be noted as the third option on the team behind Tatum and Brown it was a major adjustment for Kemba. Also Brad Stephens is kinda famous for his unorthodox use of his PGs. The Knicks situation is a lot different than Boston and IMHO Kemba should flourish. In fact the only question I have about Walker is the health of his left knee. We should know more about that in less than 3 weeks.

Yeah I gotta say his decision-making in the playoffs was not the same level as RS. I have to believe it was stamina-related in part which is why his leaner look is a basis for hope. The great players as a rule are in superior condition. Jordan, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice come to mind. Now I do not believe Randle is a truly great player but he can maximize his potential by focussing on conditioning insofar as his skills are far above average. In other words his ceiling is an unbelievable Robin. So far as this is true then Rose has to land a Batman in the next several years. Any scenarios out there for you?

In other words his ceiling is an unbelievable Robin. So far as this is true then Rose has to land a Batman in the next several years. Any scenarios out there for you? Let's give credit where credit is due. We didn't have a player like Trae Young. It wasn't just his offense but his ability to get his teammates involved too. If you look at the numbers Trae's shooting numbers against the Knicks and throughout the playoffs were very pedestrian but he also involved his teammates. The Knicks players except Rose all had subpar performances against Atlanta.
Atlanta also devised the perfect defense against Randle playing his strong hand and doubling and even tripling him most of the time forcing Julius into some horrendous shot attempts and tons of mistakes. The only Knick who was offensively competent during the playoffs was the one Knick who could create his own offense.
Derrick Rose.
Was fatigue an issue? Certainly it WASN'T conditioning. Julius was just the latest Thibs player burned out in the playoffs. Randle averaged the most minutes played in the NBA and he missed just one game. And to remind those with short memories Randle did lead the team in scoring, rebounding AND assists. Randle came into camp last season in the best shape of his career and it showed. It looks like he trimmed some weight this off season even though he has more offensive help in Walker and Fournier. That's good. Many players struggle during their first playoff exposure and nerves were likely one factor but to me Atlanta just outplayed us, out hustled us, out executed us and out coached us.

I agree Bill Atlanta flatly just kicked our ass with great play they made some great plays and shots with us all over them.I give them credit and it also was the first time this year that Thibs had his clock cleaned he was out coached .I think we learned from that and can move on ,I also think Randle needs more rest this year .If we are looking for a Miami type rivalry of old I think we found one because Atlanta is good and young and is going to be in our side digging at us for the coming years.
