This team has surprised a lot of people, including, I am sure, most if not all of the people on this board. Our defence is among the best in The league, our 3 point shooting is also among the best in the league.
I think that on any given night we have a puncher's chance of beating any team in the league. It's different though in a 7 game series against the top tier teams.
My question to you guys is very simple. In a best case scenarioHow far do you see us going, assuming we make the playoffs?

Great final question. Personally I'm riding the wave on a game by game basis. And much like I hate to make preseason win total predictions, I'm just going to say we are going to be a problem for anyone we face. Anyone. And with that said IMO, as far as the odds and preparation take us.

Bill Russell won a ton of championships and he says the playoffs boil down to two things: defense and matchups. Since we are a top 3 defensive team with a top 5 player in Randle, a kid in RJ who's putting up All-Star numbers, and a backup point guard in Rose who is playing great, my expectation on the surface is reaching a sixth or seventh game of the second round. Anything beyond that I will go out of my mind with excitement. Last night I was looking at our schedule, and simply put it is rough: @denver, @phoenix, @clips, @lakers which could very well be 4 losses. Then Spurs, Hornets, Celtics. That's possibly another two losses. Although b-ballref says we are projected to go 3-4 we could end up 2-5 or 1-6 with no momentum going in. In other words we could possibly end up the 5th or even 6th seed depending on how the Hawks, Miami, and Celtics do. Atlanta has a very easy schedule. Miami's schedule is tougher than the Hawks but easier than ours. Celtics have a schedule that's as difficult as Miami's. So it is possible if not probable that we drop to 5th and face the Hawks as a road team. I am comfortable with that scenario but I wish we had Mitch back. If we drop to seventh seed then we can expect a first round exit against the Bucks, and a tough but agonizing 7 games loss to the Nyets. And the reason in either case, as Bill Russell says, comes back to matchups. Giannis, Durant, Irving, Harden are matchup nightmares for any team. We'd have to play error-free basketball and get to the line a ton. Trouble is that we are not great in the turnover and free throw categories.

I'll take any playoff series. Will be nice to watch them play some meaningful games and let them get that experience. Weird, if we had any one of the Nets big 3, we would be a legit championship caliber team.

In a 7 game series the Knicks are at a disadvantage against the super teams of the East. Our top 3, Randle, RJ and Rose, versus the top 3 of Brooklyn in KD, Harden and Irving, the top 3 of Philadelphia in Embiid, Simmons and Harris and the top 3 of Milwaukee in Giannis, Midddleton and Holiday is over matched. I think our sum of the parts approach helps enormously but superstars win championships and we don't have a superstar. Yet.
Our defense helps and if everybody is healthy we got good depth but if you are objective all 3 Eastern powers have a player or players better than our best player. They won't like playing us though with our swarming defense and physical play. The Knicks can make things vastly uncomfortable and a series upset is not an impossibility.
I honestly thought the Knicks were still 2 years away from a title run but with a good draft and a better summer we could be in the hunt NEXT season. We are already off to a good start with Luca Vildoza. We have 3 solid draft picks and a decently deep draft. The Knicks will have money to spend if they wish with my target being Norman Powell. Secure a second scorer and some young, talented depth and the Knicks are in the mix.
