This man feels like he's in another stratosphere. I will be very surprised especially watching him in the last few weeks, if he doesn't make an all NBA team even 2nd or 3rd.
Say what you want about his past but his present and his future is bright. I still worry that Thibs is burning him out but Randle is a tank.
But he is schooling almost every power forward that defends him. Just wanted to give him his due. I hope he gets the respect of the voters for Most Improved and All NBA.

He gets my vote for most improved and All-NBA. He and RJ are the future of our team. JR & RJ.

After all the grief and criticism Randle endured last season it's so gratifying to see a player who genuinely wants to be a Knick enjoy this level of praise for his considerable efforts, improvement and impact on the Knickerbockers. He is a force but not to be lost in viewing Randle's contributions to the team it's on defense where he made the biggest strides. Randle is a legitimate 2 way player. As is RJ who like Randle has grown leaps and bounds. I look at RJ and how he has expanded his two way game so dramatically and I have to remind myself he is but 20 years old and will get significantly better in the future.
I don't consider Randle or RJ a #1 type scoring option player especially if the Knicks get a player like Beal though adding a player like Ingram makes him and Randle 1 and 1a. But since Randle does everything else I'm content with him as the Knicks best player. I'm still on the fence about RJ offensively but I wouldn't be shocked if he became a 20+ PPG scorer. I love RJ's defense and sometimes I feel he doesn't get enough credit for his defensive growth so quickly in his career.
I feel like we have our core right now and are lacking just the one missing piece. And that's NOT Lonzo Ball though adding him certainly doesn't hurt.
Team building is not an easy process but the Knicks have done a marvelous job so far. I think it vital over the summer they extend Mitch, Noel, Burks, Rose and Gibson. Randle is in an option year so hold off on him till after the 2022 free agent are available and then max him out. Draft wisely. Trade wisely. Spend cap money wisely. Most of all be patient. I think Obi is an unpolished gem who will reveal himself as he gains confidence. I have no clue about Knox. I think Payton and Bullock have played well for the Knicks at times but I want a true PG and a real SF whether that be a player we sign, trade for or draft or simply move Barrett to SF. That said I wouldn't be pissed if we kept Payton or Bullock at reasonable rates. Frank? I'm pro Frank but a lot of fans aren't and I'm not sure how Thibs values him though he showed confidence last night inserting Frank into the game for his defense and a timely trey.
We are close. The next week will tell a lot about the Knicks including a return engagement with the Pelicans tomorrow afternoon. The one thing you absolutely know though is no team wants to play the Knicks. No team. Think of that when you ponder the last decade plus of Knicks basketball.

I for one would love to see Ball here (with he obvious caveat of the clownish father's involvement). Few better than he better at pushing the ball up the floor and creating semi-breaks on his own. Then if that doesn't work he gives over playmaking duties to Randle and RJ in a half-court offense, where Ball can move off the ball and get open for corner threes (where he has greatly improved even though his shot looks slightly broken still) and whatnot. Also he can spearhead a run and gun by staying on the floor with a 2nd unit with some fleet-footed finishers on fast breaks.
Defensively it'd be great to have him creating deflections, forcing turnovers. Haven't focussed on his man defense and working over screens, but still I believe he'd be a great fit.
I loathe the father. Manipulative, bullying. Fawning, scraping, bowing, craven Dolan would be eating out of his hand in no time flat and that'd be the end. Nightmarish yet still plausible. Nonetheless... I heard Lonzo had a parting of ways with this dude. I hope it's still that way as I'd rather a player be here who is his own man.
A trio of Ball, Barrett, and Randle resonates to me; they are an echo of Rondo/Allen, Pierce, and Garnett. People tend to forget that Thibs was the defensive coach on those Celtics teams. If I can see it then surely he can see it. I'd bet he wants to get Lonzo Ball here. Time will tell.

I have some issues with durability but by and large he has improved his game greatly BUT... Tibs isn't known for an uptempo offense. Is Ball still a fit? I'd have to watch more film of him in half court offenses because his Pelican teams like to run. To get Ball the Knicks will have to overpay some in order for Nawlins not to match. Risk? Reward?
Dolan didn't bend over for the Porzingis clan I doubt he does it for the Balls especially since Jimmy is not running the Knicks. He signs the checks. Period. But if we get Ball his dad will follow because New York is too big a stage for him not to try and grab. You get Ball you get the loud mouthed daddy.

I believe we don't realize how overstated the Ball father is now in 2021. He focuses more on getting his middle child on a team and his sick wife. He barely goes on the media rounds anymore. Let's not make our transactions based solely on the past of a players father. We all don't work for the team so it would be on Leon Rose and World Wide Wes to deal with. This is Thibs team. So of anyone didn't like how he runs things, Leon Rose would surely send them on his way. Also Payton is dreadful and we have room for 3 max slots. We have to spend this money sometime and Brock Aller, our capologist is not a moron. So again we could poison pill his contract so New Orleans doesn't make and make it front loaded with a declining scale every year after. He is an upgrade in every sense of the word and he is only 23. We have to do it. Or else he will go to Chicago and play with Lavine and the evolving youth movement there.

I agree with this assessment but I worry less about the father as he has not made any headache for New Orleans or Charlotte at this time. He won't for NY either.

Jason
Don't kid yourself. Lavar Ball would go crazy in NY. New Orleans is a small market so he basically stays out of the picture but an ego like his could never resist the bright lights of Broadway. But you make a good point that it's management's problem and not ours.
After his major defensive mistake today, a mistake a high school team wouldn't make according to SVG, I have to re-examine Lonzo Ball a little bit. One mistake doesn't disqualify him from a Knicks offer but that was a pretty dumb mistake.
Thankfully.
