Less than 24 hours to go to the 3pm NBA trade deadline tomorrow and nothing big has happened yet but I think it will. There is just too much noise in the system and it seems like all the serious championship contenders are looking for something.
I find it extremely interesting how few of the trade rumors involve the Knicks who along with OKC should be the most active teams on the trading front. New York has 15 million in cap room to absorb salaries which is huge this year with every NBA team hemorrhaging money because of the pandemic. New York has assets, both young players and multiple draft choices, and yet they are strangely quiet. In fact they put out an announcement that the most important thing to management is chemistry and they love the current chemistry of the team. With that said let me put it out that it is rumored New Orleans is offering a first round pick for a team to take Eric Bledsoe. Isn't Bledsoe a former Kentucky Wildcat?
Some names being mentioned are Lonzo Ball, Harrison Barnes, Kelly Oubre, Andre Drummond, Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, Doug McDermott, Norman Powell, Kyle Lowry, DeMarr DeRozan, Aaron Gordon, Victor Oladipo, Evan Fournier and others...
So do y'all want a trade? Want to stay pat? Be patient? Strike while the iron is hot? Make the right trade and the Knicks could be in the playoffs. Stay with the roster as is and they could be in the playoffs too but they could just as easily miss the playoffs. Personally making the playoffs isn't a huge deal to me. If we stick with the guys we have now and make the playoffs organically that's huge because upside is the one thing this team has in abundance. But it depends on the trade and who we get and how much it costs.
Thoughts? Predictions? Wish List?

For me it would have to make sense, so basically not going after someone that only marginally makes you better or giving up major assets for a rental or again, marginal upgrade. If someone who they see can fit into the long term plan or if we are weaponizing the cap space to help us build then yea, I would be ok with a move as long as it's not some of our core guys (Randle, RJ, IQ and possibly Mitch). Also I'm really starting to like Burks and Bullock too but if decent upgrades could be found I wouldn't mind it.

I want Ball so we don't have to contend with Miami and Chicago who also want him too in the offseason. Knox and the 2023 Dallas top ten protected pick should do.

Ball or bust. Id like to keep Knox bc he has shown he can shoot, he's from Kentucky and I believe he will be a better player than either-- Obi and or Frank and the pick.

I love your logic but Knox (their need for whats he's shown is minimal) plus a late one would probably be outbid. I wont dispute whether that is what we should offer. You are likely correct. But like the Powell deals mentioned here there is no line for Knox or Frank plus some late first or second round picks. Not for actual talented players that many teams desire.

Whoa Boston just traded for Evan Fournier with Orlando for 2 second round picks. Damn we could've used the shooting for two second round picks.
I wonder if that's the price for an expiring contract. Hmm, the Knicks might find value today if so.

Orlando really blew their team up today sending Vucevic to Chicago, Gordon to Denver and Fournier to Boston! I think the hidden asset in all these trades is RJ Hampton. Liked that kid a lot.
I wish the Knicks would have made a pitch for Norman Powell but the Blazers got a good player. Instead we end the longest paternity leave in NBA history by sending Austin Rivers to OKC which means my personal universe returns to normal as now Rivers returns to the top of my most disliked player list. But I do wish Rivers could have put on his early January heroics (14 straight points against Utah) in front of a full MSG crowd. That would have been epic especially compared to the golf clapping from the maintenance crew.
Returning back to the Magic deals I think Boston and Denver improved their teams. Certainly Chicago is improved but they are an exceedingly young team with a soon to be 31 year old center as their best player. Hmmm....

Are the Clipper crazy by trading that guy?! No offense to Rondo and I get he won two titles but Low Williams is Lou Williams.

BTW, the Knicks created an extra roster spot by trading Rivers and Braz for Ferguson. Just saying.

Rondo for Lou Williams. Works for both teams especially the Clippers. Oladipo to Miami which is what Victor wanted. Big sigh of relief the Knicks didn't try and trade for him. Andre Drummond likely to be bought out which puts the Knicks in the mix if they really want him. The big shocker is Kyle Lowry is still a Raptor!! Lonzo Ball is still a Pelican but teammate JJ Redick was traded to the Mavs.
And of course the Knicks landed Ferguson and Poirier.
Actually the big news is the Knicks can get Drummond and go after Lonzo Ball this summer. A lot of informed folks think this is the Knicks grand plan but I remain not so sure.

No offense to Rondo and I get he won two titles but Low Williams is Lou Williams. I think Lou is losing a little. Plus Clips really needed a smart pass first point guard. Lou leaves LA (almost no one likes leaving LA. ) but he can now frequent Magic City every night. Go Lemon Pepper Lou.
