Ok whoa let's take several steps back and have several seats. The man lost a family member and attended a funeral, and might've been exposed to COVID. You couldn't possibly be attacking character without knowing the full story are you? And then regarding his play this year he has been having great synergy(your favorite word), with Quickley, Obi, and the second unit so maybe you haven't seen alot of Rose games since he's been with the team. It wasn't a family member. It was the younger brother of the same dude who was caught "training" a woman with Rose in LA, leading to a sexual assault issue and delaying Rose's arrival here the first time around. Read my response to Gates. I have seen Rose play in at least half of the games. You might recall my game commentaries this year. He leaves his feet to pass the ball every single time. That'll catch up with him if we make the playoffs. We shall see how much Thibs "trusts" him in terms of minutes played and when those minutes are allotted. My original response to the OP had other material in it about Randle, Quickley, Barrett, and Rivers. What did you think of the rest of the post? Unless you are privy to Rose and his inner circle who are you to define who he considers a "brother"? There are any number of non-blood related people, including some here, I consider brothers. One of our board brothers passed away shortly after we migrated from AOL to this message board. I miss him terribly and mourn him every time I go on this board. Is my/our grief somehow diminished by a lack of direct lineage?
It should also be noted that besides being found innocent of all charges the sexual assault trial took place in 2016. Rose is a very different person now. He knows he isn't a superstar level player and he's comfortable playing off the bench and starting. He's assumed a leadership role that the PLAYERS and not Monday Morning Quarterbacks like you and I, acknowledge.
Clyde hates it but name me one NBA PG who doesn't leave their feet most times when passing. Since I'm the one with NBA League Pass I'll answer my own question. Not many.
IMHO Quickley hasn't hit the wall. He's a 21 year old kid playing 20 MPG. His issue isn't fatigue. It's inconsistency which plagues most young players. He will figure it out.
Last but certainly not least let's wait till the Knicks actually make the playoffs before discussing THIS version of Derrick Rose's impact on the playoffs. But as a precursor to that discussion, if it ever happens, Rose is a different player with a far different role than he was as a Bulls player and team superstar. THIS Knicks team belongs to Randle and RJ. Derrick is a supporting actor. Not a star.

My response to the rest of what you wrote to the OP is: Randle is our most important player and he has evolved on every level and growing to the player we see today versus last year. He even admitted he felt he let his team down last year. I created an "eat crow" post a few months ago about Randle because he played like absolute garbage juice despite what I felt was empty stats. Not so much this year and I believe it's permanent. I don't think IQ has hit a wall so much that Thibs has a short hook on minutes the moment you start missing shots or another player has the hot hand. When he's given as much leeway Randle is to grow then I believe he will learn new skills and be consistent. And I believe with regards to Obi, he's pressing because of the aforementioned hook Thibs gives for his players when they aren't contributing to winning. We mainly drafted him because the front office was aware of how bad Randle played last year, and wanted him as the successor. Because that now isn't the case anymore, I'm not even sure if he will be the player for the future at the 4 but I'm willing to give him a few years(his rookie contract).

I understand your criticism of Rose. I like him and think he has been excellent here. But he is Not your type of player. That is FINE. But linking Covid 19 disease to character is just MINGBOGGLING to me. Karl Anthony Towns' mom lacks character? Tom Hanks lacks professionalism? WOW. His first time here he was terrible, and the first time here he was also flaky, and he was under suspicion of sexual assault that delayed his arrival to the Knicks. I'm not sure he's turned over a new leaf, but I have taken note that some of the young players on the Knicks have sung his praises. That's great. And while I can understand leaving if it's a member of his family who had died... that wasn't the case here. In fact, this is the same BFF of Rose's who was part of the "train" that infamous night in LA and I believe is still in Rose's employ. deadspin.com/derrick-roses-friend-explains-the-difference-between-gi-1787686668 Not sure whether that makes a difference to you but seems kinda ballsy to ask for paid leave from the team for a non-family member's younger brother. I would have counseled Rose to remain with the team and commiserate over Skype with his friend until the season is over. Rose and Thibs might be coddling him. My apologies if this opinion of mine has offended you or anyone else. I tend to be more an innocent til proven guilty liberal. Definitely no need for an apology. If you are saying that Rose's current actions confirm your previous beliefs, then i can accept that while not agreeing. But I understood your previous post to mean that Rose acquiring covid itseff indicated a lack of intelligence and maturity. Had many problems - hundreds of thousands of problems - with that.

THIS Knicks team belongs to Randle and RJ. Derrick is a supporting actor. Not a star. The NBA is a business with contracts between players and the team who hires them. I don't know about the content of the contracts but I would imagine there's some sort of "bereavement leave" element in there. Whether that bereavement extends beyond actual family is something I am not privy to but at the end of the day this was *his choice* and management has shown a great deal of forbearance if not indulging and coddling Rose. He's been gone 3 weeks and he's being paid. And he won't be in game shape when he returns, either. Very fortunate that Thibs is the coach of the Knicks.
