Mitch is top 7 among centers in DRPM, Noel is 15th. Those two are key to Knicks' success until the offense improves. Randle is 4th among PFs in DRPM, yet only 15th in ORPM which measures floor impact. He is getting great numbers but may not be elevating others around him on offense the way you would like, even as he is scoring very efficiently. Part of that lower ranking is the turnovers, including a couple of bad shots a game. His TS% is almost 59% which is elite but were he to cut down on those 2-3 bad shots a game that TS% would be closer to 63% which is an All-NBA type scorer. Still, he is so much better on offense than last season, and his defensive rank speaks volumes about his conditioning and Thibs. Bullock ranked 13th in DRPM, Burks is 48th. Meanwhile, Bullock is an abysmal 62nd on ORPM while Burks is merely 50th. Perhaps Bullock has benefitted from having played alongside Mitch, while I imagine Burks hasn't as much. I still prefer Burks out there in this platoon. Barrett is ranked 11th among SGs on DRPM. But he still has to figure out how to be more effective on offense, ranking 100th in ORPM at the position. Payton is ranked 82nd in ORPM among PGs and that is not going to cut it. Rose is incomplete but his rank is 59th so again, no. Our favorite rookie IQ is ranked 26th. According to this metric he should be starting... just sayin'. And yet: Payton's DRPM ranking is surprisingly high, ranking 15th.
I wonder how many minutes IQ + Payton have played together while RJ, Randle, and Mitch/Noel are also on the floor?

Hate drpm but eye test says payton is our best defensive guard by far. Bullock is a good defender but does nothing on offense when he is not making threes. The obvious position to upgrade is one wing. Either SF or SG (with Barrett then moving to SF) has to improve.
It is nice though that it is finally not PG that is our worst position.
