At 6 PM free agency starts. This is why Leon Rose is running the Knicks. This is is his super power. So far he is setting the table but tonight, and maybe the next 2 or 3 days, is when we as fans know what he is serving. A banquet or McDonalds. I know this though. If Rose was running things a couple of years ago KD and Kyrie would be Knicks.
I am anxiously awaiting what is to happen but keep in mind patience is a virtue. We may not know anything for a couple of days. Right now it seems the Knicks are hot to trot for Gordon Heyward. I hear rumors he wants to go back to Indiana but I also hear rumors of a 2 year mega deal from NY. Or maybe he goes back to Boston. I’m not sure where I sit with Heyward. I think he showed some signs last season of coming back from that terrible leg injury but is he worth north of 35 million a year? I don’t think so. He can shoot and he’s decently well rounded but he isn’t a PG.
Fred Van Fleet is a PG and a good one. He’s just 26 and he’s solid. He can shoot the ball, get you 15-17 points a game, 7 assists or so with a 3-1 assist to turnover ratio and he’s a career 39% shooter from the 3 point line. He’s a tenacious defender and decently durable. He’s not a superstar though and like Heyward he’s looking at superstar wages plus he is considered a lock to stay with the Raptors. Of course that is the very reason the Knicks have Leon Rose. You don’t know what you want till he tells you.
It was announced Anthony Davis won’t sign with the Lakers tonight at 6PM. He likely will sign with the Lakers but as somebody pointed out Rajon Rondo, also a free agent, is his bud and both are Kentucky alums and the Knicks have become the University of Kentucky/Manhattan Campus. Don’t hold your breath but again this is why you have Leon Rose repping you instead of Phil Jackson.
More certainly to follow...
