I think you guys are setting yourself up for disappointment when you talk about Obi, Weissman and Deni, because they’ll all be gone at eight for sure. Throw in Ball and Edwards and I think everyone else is on the table. I definitely agree with Rene that you pick the BPA. You have tons of cap space, and there are a bunch of good trade options out there for good point guards when you have so many number one picks. Thank you Phil and Mills for accumulating them and thank you Dolan for firing Mills when he got desperate and was about to get rid of them in bad trades. My personal choice at eight if I’m right about the above mentioned all being gone is Killian Hayes, although I also think he’ll be gone too. I don’t like Okoro because although he’ll be good, the Knicks desperately need a shooter. I read a rumor that the Knicks are considering trading down, thinking they can acquire more assets and still get either Kira Lewis or Vassel. If they do that they better be right! And if they trade up, and I already know Jason will disagree with me, but I’d then draft Edwards or Deni. I heard Edwards looked incredible in workouts for teams and I loved him before that. Another team’s executive said that Mitch, the 8th pick and a future unprotected number one can get them the first pick in the draft, and I’ll be honest with you, a part of me would cry and another part of me would be thrilled if we made that deal. And again, I’d pick Edwards if we did, with Weissman a close second now that Mitch would be gone. That being said, I predict the Knicks will stay at eight and draft Tyrese Halliburton, because Knicks fans I read on twitter all hate him!

I’ll take Vassel, Nesmith, Halliburton. Do you not take Obi if he is there? I want no part of Obi. He has no lateral quickness. He also has no proven success against top-end talent. I think that he is the most overrated player in the draft.

He might be the most overrated but I don't see how he won't become at least a solid starter. Five of this lottery will be bums.

I have spent the last few days watching a lot of video and listening to commentary on the draft. NBA TV was kind enough to do a whole series of shows on the prospects with video and commentary from their coaches and experts. It was very illuminating but some things don’t change. Ball, Wiseman and Edwards are still the best players in this draft and after that it’s a bit of a crap shoot as all these kids have positives and they also have negatives.
Let me repeat my draft mantra. Draft the best player regardless of position!!! That said I can make compelling arguments for a lot of these players but the first job is to wean the list a bit. Ball, Wiseman and Edwards are gone. I like these guys a lot but there is no way I trade Mitch or RJ plus this years #8 AND a first rounder next year for these guys. I would however trade Mitch and next years unprotected first rounder for a shot at Wiseman. I feel that strongly that this kid can be that special because right now Mitch is my favorite Knick.
Looking at all the mocks it seems like Avidja and Toppin will be gone. A note on Toppin. Great athlete and a very accomplished offensive player but when a dozen pundits mention a lack of lateral quickness you listen. Obi is built a bit like Stoudemire and even Porzingis which means he has a high center of gravity. I still like him but he’s more a SF than a PF. I do like Onyeka Okongwu and Isaac Okoro a LOT! If you don’t like Julius Randle, and I do like Julius, than Okongwu is the guy you want to replace him. I’ll let Gary fill in the details but he can grow into a NBA PF though he needs to work on his 3 point shot. He’s an outstanding two way player.
Okoro is also very interesting to me especially since his coach says his game is a lot more developed offensively that he showed while at Auburn. He has good form on his shot and he is the draft’s best defender. Much more Kawhi than Kidd-Gilchrist. ESPN/ABC had a mock draft that had the Knicks getting Tyrese Halliburton. He’s my first choice. For me he ticks all the boxes. Fills a need while still being the best player available. Can shoot. Can pass. Can defend. He’s smart and he’s a high character kid. While not the most athletic he uses his biggest muscle better than anybody in this draft. His brain. Halliburton works perfectly for the Knicks and especially for guys like Randle, Barrett, Robinson and Knox because he knows how to get them good shots while providing a desperately needed perimeter threat to loosen things up.
FSU forward Patrick Williams is getting a lot of notice whereas Killian Hayes and Devin Vessell are slipping a bit. So if Wednesday night I hear Adam Silver say the New York Knicks with the 8th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft take either Halliburton, Okongwu or Okoro (in that order of preference) I’ll be happy. Now if the Knicks can parlay their 27th pick and a future Dallas pick into Vanderbilt’s Nesmith or maybe Vessell if we don’t draft Okoro that would be perfect.

While we might slightly disagree on a couple players I really like your post. I watched that NBA TV series. When someone compared Deni to Detlef Schrempf, I got weak. Loved Detlef's game

He also has the advantage off being a 19 year old with 100 professional basketball games in a very competitive league under his belt. No way he is there at #8.
I liked Schrempf too.

Playing amateur GM again and trying to predict how the draft will go. Lots of mocks have Minnesota taking Ball. I don’t see the logic there when you already have D’Angelo Russell. Wiseman makes no sense when you have KAT leaving Anthony Edwards as the next logical choice. Golden State is a championship contender and James Wiseman is the perfect fit for them because he is NBA ready right now as a rim protector and finisher in the paint. Charlotte won’t pass up a chance at LaMelo Ball.
Now it gets interesting. The best fit for Chicago is Ball but he likely will be gone. Avdija is the next best player and he’s more NBA ready than most with his extensive international career. Most mocks have Cleveland going after Toppin and I can’t fault the rationale there. Atlanta isn’t going to go after a PG when they have Trae Young so this where Okongwu goes. Or Okoro. Or Patrick Williams who is getting a lot of redraft buzz which usually means an outstanding workout. It doesn’t matter because I cannot see Atlanta drafting any guard not named Edwards. Okongwu is still the best choice. Now the wildcard. The Detroit Pistons.
Detroit could use a PG and Halliburton is the best one available. But you also have Okoro and Williams available and either works for the Pistons too. This scenario is exactly why the Knicks should attempt to move up in the draft so they get a choice of precisely who they want. Halliburton is perfect for them. But then again so is Okongwu and while I think most are justified to have doubts about Okoro (I have seen a couple of Renaldo Balkman comparisons ) he’s a dynamic player even with his obvious deficiencies and unlike Balkman he can and does score points using his physical ability, an above average handle and just first rate basketball IQ. He will take longer than Halliburton or Okongwu to make an impact but from Day 1 he will be a Thibodeau favorite. I like Patrick Williams and have seen him play a few times. Outstanding talent and maybe a better person. I would not be displeased to add him to the Knicks. I’m not a huge Killian Hayes fan but maybe over the next few days I’ll feel differently.
What Detroit will do is anybody’s guess but I am getting a little bit of a 2009 draft vibe when the Knicks got Jordan Hill instead of Stephen Curry. Hill was a #8 pick too. The only consolation is I like whoever is left be it Okoro, Okongwu, Williams or Hayes a LOT better than Jordan Hill.

There’s rumors that Detroit has promised Patrick Williams that he’s their pick if he’s available at seven. And since we’ve heard Leon Rose say he doesn’t think there’s much difference after the big three, I doubt he’ll trade up unless he gets to the top. I can see him trading back a few spots and grabbing Kira Lewis or staying at eight and picking Killian Hayes if he drops.

I would be happy today with, if we keep the 8th Tyrese Maxey(you guys have to watch video of his work ethic documentaries on YouTube). Since he went to Kentucky and he is a playmaker and has some Donovan Mitchell tendencies, I would be happy with him.
Otherwise Devin Vassell or Okoro I'm fine with.
Haliburton reminds me alot of a better Frank on offense and an even Frank on defense so he seems redundant a little.
And of course I like Kira Lewis Jr too.
So I would like in no particular order at 9 if we stay there, Maxey, Okoro, Vassell Toppin or Kira Lewis. With Vassell and Maxey as my top choices.

I pray Okoro gets past Atlanta ,I hope Boston trades up there for double O.I'm all in on Okoro with Vasell as my backup plan.I think the top three picks have bust potential so I'm extremely happy were we are picking it forces us to get guy with extremely high floor and a more sure thing to not be a bust.
