It's ironic but Sene is a guy I thought we should draft a few years ago but he went ridiculously high to the Sonics at #10.
He's got an almost 8 foot (actually 7'9) wingspan, he is very athletic and beyond raw even after 3 years in the pros. He's a project but at least he bears some resemblance to Samuel Dalembert in athleticism and height. Maybe some summer ball and good coaching and he makes the team.

As we've discussed many time one member of the 3 man "taxi squad" should generally be a big man with long term potential

Courtney Sims and Saer Sene definitely are an upgrade to Curry and jeffries because no exxpectations come from these two being young and unproven. The former players mentioned should barely be making the mid level if that and you have to tip theit agents for fleecing the Knicks with their deals. I'd like to see what Sims(who was D-league MVP this season if thats an accomplishment) and Sene can do in the summer league and come into camp ready to play some real minutes.
Both block shots and rebound so we'll see in the summer.

Who is Saer Sene, and where is this masked man? This must be an April Fool's Joke, right? BTW, Sims looked good versus our latest loss.

Who is Saer Sene, and where is this masked man? This must be an April Fool's Joke, right? BTW, Sims looked good versus our latest loss. Sene is from Senegal and played some Euro ball before entering the NBA Draft in 2006. He was drafted 10th over all but the (then) Sonics. He is 7' tall, 230lbs and he will be 23 years old next month. Here is the pre-draft profile of Sene from NBADraft.net: NBA Comparison: Dikembe Mutombo Aran Smith - 6/26/2006 Strengths: An absolutely jaw dropping physical specimen with his combination of size, length, strength, athleticism and mobility Very disruptive defensively and rebounds the ball well Has a 7'8" wingspan making him a force as a shot blocker Already getting playing time at the Senior level for Pepinster and getting decent minutes and stats Runs the floor well Great hands, has no problems catching the ball or rebounding Extremely agile, he can fall down on the court like a cat, not heavily like most big man Very coach-able and a hard working kid Weaknesses: Still doesn't have much offensive game to speak of Only began playing basketball in 2003 so he's still learning the game Must continue working hard to maximize his great potential. Here is what draftexpress.com has to say about him: Saer Sene, 7-0, Center, 1986, Senegal, Pepinster (Belgium) One of the more intriguing stories to follow in the coming years out of this draft class is the development of Saer Sene. It really could go in any direction. If his learning curve really is as steep as some NBA teams think, we’re talking about an absolute force in the middle that runs the floor incredibly hard, blocks shots and rebounds with the best of them, and best of all, shows a terrific attitude to do all the little things. But if he ends up the way too many African prospects over the past few years have, the results will not be pretty for the team that drafts him. Olumide Oyedeji, Malick Badiane, Mamadou N’Diaye, Soumalia Samake, the list of uber-athletic freaks with incredible wingspans and little to no basketball experience goes and on and on. Sene essentially represents everything the NBA draft stands for. Hit a home run and you might get a Samuel Dalembert with the 27th pick. Strike out and you might suffer through four listless years of DeSagana Diop like the Cleveland Cavaliers did after drafting him 8th overall. Sene’s more likely scenario is that he develops into a more athletic version of what Diop has become today, a big body in the post who intimidates with his length, runs the floor, sets good screens, rebounds with purpose and scores when the opportunity arises. As ordinary as that might sound, there is a plenty of value in getting a 7-footer in that mold, particularly when you are drafting somewhere from 10-20. Anything more than that is absolute gravy for the team that drafts him, which is where his upside kicks in. For more info on Saer Sene’s strengths and weaknesses, click on his name to read his recently completed scouting report. He has the raw material. He is coachable and hardworking. What is missing? Maybe opportunity (Seattle had 2 young centers already in Robert Swift and Johan Petro) and coaching. He's worth taking a look at now and in the summer.

I appreciate the Sene information, Bill. Let's hope that Saer gets some time in tonight's game. Maybe, just maybe, he can be that player we sorely need in the middle. As we know, big men sometimes take a few years to blossom, but acquiring this fellow at 22-23 years of age, is akin to getting another draft pick, IMHO. I like the fact that the Knicks are beginning to address the pivot issue with both Sene and Sims. Now.

It would be very nice to bring in a proper mentor for the big men this summer.
