Now that the Cavs are out of the second season, people from us posters to the experts INSIST LeBron James won't be around next season. Well, guess what? James says otherwise in this short article: sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4219933As most of you know, I refuse to go by what other people say and take the source's word for it. I look forward to everyone's opinions, however.

Jeff
The only relevant thing I gleaned from the article is that LeBron needs to do some serious work on sportsmanship. His comments were ridiculous. Bill Russell was the single greatest competitor in NBA history and he would shake hands with opponents even after a loss. Ditto for Michael Jordan and every NBA great I can think of even the King of Rude and Obnoxious Behavior, Sir Charles Barkley. ; ) I can understand his disappointment and even his behavior on the court after he lost but he should have gone to the Magic locker room later and congratulated them.
As for LeBron's comments about his future I take them with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of PR reality. LeBron will say the safe things until he becomes a free agent.

I think he learned quite a bit about sportsmanship now that he's $25,000 lighter in the wallet.

Whatever works. I simply consider speculation a waste of time on my part.

The fine taught LeBron nothing. Maybe the negative press is a more effective tool. As for speculation it's the fuel for boards like this one. Take away that and what is left? Regurgitating a very questionable future ad nauseum. Now that fuel (speculation) may be carbon based and in the long term not good for your mental health but then again our reality hasn't been too good for our mental health either. Given the choice of dreaming or despair I take dreams every time.

What I gleen is that LeBron was wearing a NY cap. Memories of CC's conversation about the King's future Knick endeavors.
I am befuddled, however. The article seemed to indicate that Lebron made absolutely no commitment to signing an extension with the Cavs. In fact, if anything, Ben Wallace's imminient returement and the "Big Z" being the pivot, makes me think that it is a done deal that LJ is a 2010 Knick.
It's that damned hat, folks. LeBron has NY written all over his head!

Ken
I see the same "leading edge" indicators you do and I am trying mightily to be objective. ; ) I see a Cleveland team that is getting older and not much better. Anderson Varejao is looking to free agency. Mo Williams was a bust in the playoffs. "Z" is getting older and slower. Ben Wallace is contemplating retirement and WallyWorld is looking for that one last contract and begging Cleveland to offer it. There is turmoil with their coach. Does he stay? Is he gone?
In the end, IMHO, it comes down to one thing. Does LeBron want to play in the Big Apple on the world's biggest sports stage or does he want to go for the rest of his career saying "Cleveland Rocks" but not really believing that is true. ; ) LeBron has a massive ego. New York, LA and Chicago can support and feed that ego. Cleveland... ; )

I read something, perhaps it was that article that Jeff posted, that mentioned it would be absolute financial insanity for LeBron to remain a Cavalier when he is New York's most sought after target since Patrick Ewing on draft day. I do not know who said it here, but LeBron James will possibly become sports first billionaire if he comes here. All I hear is what you have said. Turmoil with the coaching staff, Ben Wallace hanging it up, Mo Williams truly failing the team in the offseason, and, yeah, Lebron's ego. Failing to get to the finals makes Cleveland a dull place, especially if Anderson Varejao tests the FA waters and lands a big deal, which he will, IMHO. My friend, you said it once on the old AOL boards. Which cast of players would you want in 2010? Cleveland's or New York's? I'd pick the Knicks over the Cavs right now, for the future cannot be left in the hands of 3 year old players who are constantly injured. Given our "keepers", meaning Wilson Chandler, Gallo, and a promising young draft player, we can probably acquire another player to augment LBJ's skills. I also think that the Knicks have a stable of young bigs in Sare Sene, Hunter, as well as Courtney Sims, who impressed me in his cup of coffee with NY...
