Boston has done an amazing job shoring up their bench signing Rasheed Wallace, Shelden Williams and Glenn Davis (any day now) plus adding backcourt depth with Marquis Daniels. Now throw in a healthy KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and kendrick Perkins and that is not just a very talented team but a deep one too. Losing Leon Powe isn't such a blow but if Powe can get and stay healthy he is a helluva player. Just like Bill Walker who is already on the Celtics. ; )
Minnesota owner Glenn Taylor has been looking for a new coach since the end of the NBA season. He finally signed Kurt Rambis for the job. This is why there has been no movement on Ricky Rubio because apparently the Timberwolves organization moves at the speed of mud. No wonder Ricky is looking to stay with his old team and wait out the Wolves. He didn't want to sign his rookie NBA contract at age 30....
I like what the Blazers have done. They lock in their biggest star in Brandon Roy to a longterm contract. Now they are about to do the same with LaMarcus Aldridge. They added Andre Miller to mentor young Jerryd Bayless. They have developing players in Nicolas Batum and Rudy Fernandez. They have a healthy Gred Oden and Martell Webster. They have quality NBA proven depth in Joel Pryzbilla, Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake. I like their draft choices especially Victor Claver and Patrick Mills. They have Nate McMillan as coach.
Watch out Lakers.
Now PEDs rear their ugly head in the NBA.I don't know what Rashard Lewis was thinking but he had to know he would get caught.
On a completely different tact is Richard Jefferson a jerk or what? I don't know or care if he is gay or straight but texting to his bride to be the wedding is off? Not allowing her into the apartment they shared so she can pick up her things? Bad mouthing her at every turn? If he pulled this crap on John Amaechi he would get his ass kicked. ; )
I know he was lousy on defense but Ben Gordon was a huge offensive spark for the Bulls. Who takes his place? They were in such a hurry to ship him out they forgot to replace him. On a team where scoring is an issue losing your best scorer has to be more than just dollars and cents.
I am waiting till a Russian team throws a bunch of money at David Lee. It might not happen but the Russian teams have money and they need to launder it. ; )

Thanx alot.
Nice stuff about Portland. They are my third favorite team (As a Knick fan one gets the option of also rooting for other teams so that the PLAYOFFS are emotionally interesting). They are very good but the lakers better worry about my second favorite team; the Spurs. ( always loved ginobili from his euro days; and love Parker's attack mode game and his choice of wife) Anyways was planning on rooting for the Spurs in spite of jeffi since they dumped Bruce "dirtiest player in the league" Bowen while adding a couple of my favorites: McDyess & Blair. But Y O U had to accurately point out that Jefferson is acting like a total douche-bag. Again thanks a lot Bill for making me examine my character. Of course I rooted for Anthony Mason so i obviously have a character flaw.

I should have faxed in my divorce papers with #2 wife...Not that what RJ did was anything but deplorable. In fact, I could have used a fax with the first one had the device been invented. Maybe I should have done it through Morse Code?
I agree that Portland is doing well with all their players, but Oden may be a bust, IMHO. I look for him to be traded--maybe after this season. Or maybe this season.
Why can't Donnie just trade David Lee for him? : )

Watch out Lakers. Good post. A couple ofcomments... Kurt Rambis, the old Knicks draft pick, gave up waiting for Phil Jackson to retire and moved on to Minny where he has a golden paarchute of $8M if fired. Phil suggested that he coach the Lakers when in Los Angeles and Kurt coach them on the road to rest his weary bones (so he apparently could be fit for romancing owner Jerry Buss' daughter...J/K but not that much). Jerry obviously turned this down (the split coaching part). The Lakers have Artest and Gasol and Bynum and Odom and a deep bench. Sorry Bill but LA will cream Portland this year. And Im not even a Laker fan. Gary

Irish:
Agreed, the Sheed signing I believe makes them the 2009-2010 champions. Very astute move by Danny Ainge.

And Im not even a Laker fan. Gary Gary Look at the average age of the Blazers versus the Lakers. Then look at one of the few teams that can match up with the Laker big men of Bynum, Gasol, and Odom with Oden, Pryzbilla, and Aldridge. Last but not least the Blazer backcourt is deep and talented especially at SG with Roy and Fernandez and with the addition of Andre Miller to add some veteran experience and the return to health by swingman Martell Webster I think you won't see the Blazers getting creamed by anybody. The only real issue on the Blazers besides youth and inexperience is a good backup power forward. Otherwise with Oden and Pryzbilla at center, LaMarcus Aldridge at PF, Nicolas Batum, Travis Outlaw and Martell Webster at SF, Roy and Fernandez at SG, Miller and Bayless at PG plus Steve Blake and 4 decent draft picks (Claver, Mills, Cunningham and Pendergraph) I don't see that many teams as deep or talented. BTW, adding Artest is a good move but what has he won?

Portland's stacked that's for sure but you don't win on paper only.I wonder about the impact of Oden's game, they have a few questions and their not convinced on Blake at the point. The Lakers are the team to beat with nobody close unless Eddie dominates then the Knicks.LOL

I dont know the exact record, but in the last 15 games the Blazers have owned the Lakers. I live in Los Angeles and all of my Laker buddies were very happy to play Houston rathe rather than Portland in the 2nd round in the playoffs. The Blazers are one of a few teams that is big enough to go against the Lakers front line. I might be wrong but iam thinking that Oden is or close to being a bust. Remember he was picked before Durant.
