It looks like a done deal that Isiah Thomas will coach the Florida International University team in Miami. It's a beautiful campus right on Biscayne Bay not far from South Beach so Isiah should have plenty of diversion. As for basketball it's a second tier program in state. It might be interesting to see what Isiah can do to elevate them in a state that has a lot of basketball talent but also has a lot of schools competing for that talent. The Gators usually have FIU on their schedule.

The collegiate level may be the proper place for Zeke. Rather you like the guy or not a plus for him has always been his draft selections. He will likely make a very good recruiter.

Zeke's forte has been his eye for young, gifted athletes. How much scouting will he do for FIU? I sort of wish he would have remained in the Knicks organization as Chief Scout. The man's eye for talent is rather remarkable. His eye as GM was a bit skewed, to say the least.

I read about this in Newsday and was tempted to put the link here
Stupidity is often defined as "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time." I think Zeke will fall on his face once again. We'll see what happens.

I was hoping that Zeke was going to a part of our drafting team. I thought he was still on our books
hmm?

I was hoping that Zeke was going to a part of our drafting team. I thought he was still on our books hmm? Zeke is still in the Knicks organization in an untitled front office position as of today. Thomas has been granted permission to explore other employment venues. From what had been published, Zeke was also being considered for a nice front office position with the Golden State Warriors, but this new job seems to be the one he will choose.

Heard a week ago that the Clips wanted Zeke as a draft consultant, have no idea what he has been doing..cept being offered cool jobs.

It is very nice that vindictive hostility toward Thomas has been nonexistant on these posts. Pretty classy.

Apparently, it is official regarding Zeke accepting the FIU job, from what I just read on one of those rumor sites. I was shocked to have read that Thomas still had 2 years left on his Knicks contract and was earning $6,000,000 a year as his "untitled" job. I wonder if Dolan has to pay him the remainder of his contract? I would suppose the answer is yes.

After all, we got David Lee, Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler, and a couple of other nice picks. His acumen for spotting young talent will be sorely missed, to be sure. Zeke may not have been the best GM in terms of trades and FA signings, but he has to get somewhat of a pass due to Scott Layden's transgressions. Plus, how much hypocrisy can I spew about the Eddy Curry trade, which I lobbied for, as well as signing "Snacks" James. I do not think Zeke or any of us, could have envisioned the two guys eating themselves out of the NBA...

My only concern with Isiah coaching in college is that college coaches, the good ones, teach a lot more than basketball to their players. You have young people at the crossroads between adulthood and adolescence and it's a critical time. Is Isiah Thomas the right kind of man who can help mold and develop people as well as basketball players?
This is a good stage for him to answer those questions and maybe start a new career.

Isiah has a thing for freakish athletes and tries to make basketball players out of them. It is a philosophy that works well for the draft because the NBA is about athleticism. The one time where he did not go for the athlete was Frye, which was his worst pick and the one that set this team back the most. The biggest mistake that any GM makes is drafting for need instead of the best available player. With the exception of Frye, Isiah drafted the best athlete available. That is why he was a solid drafter. When drafting, one should always take the best athlete/player. Then if there are two players that are somewhat equal, then you go by position. A quality big is more valuable than a quality wing, but a quality point is also more valuable than a quality wing. Walsh has a solid history with the draft as well, so hopefully, he will be OK.

That Frye pick killed us. Bynum/Granger- you never know. I think though, from my memory a lot of us wanted Bynum, Granger. There was also the Monte Ellis/ Blache faction. Crapshoot. geez look at the Bucks- villanueva over the above- then Bogut over Paul/Deron, then they take Alexander over Lopez/Gordon etc..

I doubt Dolan will have to pay Isiah all of that 12 Million. Why should Dolan pay any? Walsh saved Dolan more green by not firing him entirely. He's resigning to take another job, why should we pay, right?
