I will never listen to another NBA player say, " someone is coming or leaning towards going to NY.

I think this is a blessing in disguise. Hill would take away playing time from Chandler, Gallonari, and Jordan Hill. If Hill would have taken the 3 year deal this would have eaten into our cap space for 2010. I do admit Hill would have been a good influence on the younger players, but Hill staying in Phonix is not a big dissapointment.
Andre Miller is an intresting name. He is a true floor general. Every time the Knicks play the 76ers Clyde always showers Miller with high praise. If Nash does sign the mentioned 3 year 33million extention with the Suns, Miller could be a solid pick up for the mid level. However, this is only if Miller would accept a mid level salary.
If the Knicks cant move Curry or Jefferies by 2010 and with the projected lowering of the cap is it possible for the Knicks to sign one free agent star in 2010, and then sign another the next off season of 2011 when Curry and Jefferies contracts expire to a total of 18 million. This is not a horrible prospect if it happens. At least the Knicks are now a team on the rise, and no longer one spinning into oblivion.

Dre is enticing but the true question is the mid-level salary. Its easy to believe there is a chance, especially with what others have settled for. It was reported that Portland was also interested and they do have 8-9 million available. If Dre would be willing to play for them I do believe Portland wouldnt hesitate to sign him, unlike Lee who is restricted.

Uh-huh. Now everyone knows why I don't get excited over players talking about coming here.

If you read what Grant said in the days leading up to his decision, he talked about how hard it was on his children when they moved to Phoenix and he was reluctant to move his family again.
I am disappointed because he is my favorite Dukie, but staying in Phoenix makes the most sense for him.

DA:
Agreed. I thought that for his children, it might be tough.

You're right, DA--I did miss that. But my point was that talk is cheap. As Bill wisely put on a previous thread, speculation leads to discussion.
I'm sorry Hill didn't come here either, but he's nearing retirement, and yes, another move would've been hard on his kids. Besides, I wonder if Patrick Ewing would've let him wear #33 as easily as Alvin Adams did. I wish him all the best in Phoenix.

I'm very happy that Kidd and Hill are not sucking off the cap. Let's just hope Andre Miller isn't for real either.
While I liked Grant Hill, I like him for the vet's minimum of $1.98 million dollers for one year. J-Kidd was overpaid by Dallas, for any 3 year old guard, even a Hall of Fame one, can not be expected to last three years.

You know this also kind of dispels the notion that all players are infatuated with coming to NY and playing with D'antoni and Walsh. We do have promise in our young core and what next season will bring whomever comes here and it shouldnt have been hard for Grant Hill and Kidd to see that.
Basically Kerr is ruining the Suns and Nash will be monetarily rich but foresight foolish if he thinks as currently constructed that they are going to be winners(Phoenix). As for dallas, although they stocked up on Marion and reupped Kidd to go with Dirk and Josh howard, I still believe their wwindow closed a few years ago when they got massacred in the finals.
Marion is not a game changer outside of D'antoni's system because he didnt make Toronto or Miami better in the last few years. I think we should have extra motivation to let Dallas and Phoenix know that their star players who decided not to invest in us was a big mistake whenever we play them.
I give N8 if he stays here and Gallo permission to go off against these two teams at will as long as we get the win.

I believe there is interest in New York but two things have to happen first before we win "recruiting" battles like Kidd and Hill.
1) We have to win games and show we are a team on the rise.
2) We have to have the money to sign these players if we really want them. We certainly didn't blow away either Kidd or Hill with our offers.
In retrospect it all works out for the best in the end. Kidd's lack of outside shooting ability is a flaw for our system of basketball. "Promising" Grant Hill a starting job is simply the wrong move. Playing time should be earned and not awarded.
We have some young, promising players and anything that allows them to show their games and gain experience is a positive for the Knicks.
BTW, I'm back. ; )

I agree with Jason and Bill,Dallas and Phoeinix is not going nowhere and a starting job should not be promised. While I'm disappointed I'm wondering how we would spread the minutes at the three, four and two ,playing Hill will hurt playing time for our core Gallo.Chandler and Hill & Lee.This might be best anyway.I can't wait to get this team on the floor and kick Dallas and Sun ass.
