On Friday, 10/15, I received a call from my terrific oncologist, Dr. O'Connell, who has been treating me since I found out about my health issues. Comrades, I received unbelievable results from two important procedures I had two days prior. All of the tumors I have on the pancreas, liver and kidneys have shrunk an average of 2 mm, and a few of the smaller ones, have actually disappeared! I have spent much time on the "discussion" board and am so excited about the Knicks that I was remiss in posting an update on this place that Bill built for me. I attribute this positive development to my faith which is spiritual, to the positive people who now punctuate my life, and when I speak of positive people, I mean each and every one here on this board. My treatment remains the same--chemotherapy which my physician believes, is kicking these things out of my body. My treatment also involves getting feisty with some of you about our team, so please don't hold back I am so excited about such a rapid progression in my challenge, and you guys have all been behind me. My girlfriend, Kelley, knows you all, since I talk to her about my history on the basketball boards as well as you all, and I have to prevent her from joining up here since she is a Celtics fan, as she hails from Mass...Moreover, she is an attorney and may sue Eddy Curry, thus diminishing his value in trade. Most importantly, she can never know about my "fake" girlfriend, Tina Cervasio, who, like the Knicks, looks rejuvenated and ready to kick some Miami Cheat ass... Our little secret, guys, okay? Always My Best, Ken

I can't imagine better news Ken!
I know it's a struggle but keep up the fight.
Winners never quit and quitters never win. Never has that seemed more true than today.

I feel like this is akin to Kiner's Korner---Yeah, I did like the Mets during certain times, like 1986, when they won, LOL. Your man, JaVale McGee (sp?) is truly incredible. He is a dominate 'big'--Breen said he is 7'3--that cannot be true, but he plays that type of game which I want from Anthony Randolph. I love that guy... I think that the Wizards have a superb team, and with Wall and Arenas back, plus their size up-front, should be a force to be reckoned with, IMHO... Yes, this news was absolutely fantastic...It's not easy, but something seems to be working, my friend!

This is wonderful news. I am so happy for you ( and us). BTW I just spoke to the KING and he is also happy for you. Said he will give your Knicks 50 as a present the next time he comes to the garden. Pat Riley said to tell you : " zupp homes. I'm dedicating this upcoming ring to you"

Ken:
Superlative news. I am thrilled and keep praying for even better news as the days and weeks move forward. Stay positive, follow your doctor's orders and let's all get together this year at the Garden for a Knick evening, dinner and a game would be nice.
Kenny, thanks for sharing your great news. You absolutely made my day.
Your pal,
Pearl

I assume you mean Bernard King, when you refer to the KING, right? ;D The only rings Pat Riley has are the ones his previous teams won. No way is Miami coming out of the East with that squad. Even the "experts" are placing Miami below Boston, Orlando, and some even say below Chicago. Don't shoot the messenger, my esteemed colleague, but you should not have jumped on the South Beach rickety bandwagon. It was bound to break even before it got on the court...

Particularly if we can get to see Amar'e pimp-slap Bosh, but that game may be out of my financial range at the moment...Of course, Gates will be wearing LeCon's new uniform number, which should be "0", which represents how many titles he will win with Miami! I can't wait until Wednesday night, for I think that we will see a far different Knicks team than we have this pre-season...

Wonderful news Ken! Sorry I am just now reading it. Will... No need for you to be sorry, my friend. I haven't been here since I posted my latest news, since, as you know, we all are focused on opening night and our new team... Talk to you soon, comrade. Thank you for your good words and cheer. That is a crucial component to battling this challenge, and this board makes me feel very positive!

At some point Dwayne Wade will become Dwayne wade. last night he played like Roger Maris jr. Meanwhile the K I N G will continue to be great. Will Jabba Oneal continue to run the court. I'll keep pushing that rickety bandwagon uphill. that is the easy part of my basketball life. the hard part comes tonight when i have to root for my knicks to grab any rebounds and have tums ready incase I can't hold my KoolAid down. BTW many of those experts do not expect the knicks to make the playoffs.

Ken
I'm delighted to hear of the wonderful progress you are making. I'd like to share a story, which may offer a bit of encouragement, even though it's anecdotal
A very dear friend of ours was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. By the time they found it there was already a mass that pierced the Uterine wall and was a full blown metastasis. She underwent a round of chemo, followed by radiation, followed by another round of chemo. The cancer was stage 3, and her outlook wasn't good.
This was almost 10 years ago. My wife and i had Thanksgiving dinner with her this past year, and she still teaches college, although she's nearing retirement age and is scaling back. She feels great and is in great health. it's one story, but there are many others like it.
I wish you the very best and will include you among the people i think about in what passes for prayer for me.

First of all, I am so happy that you're here, Iggy. Secondly, I am blessed by having a medical team that has treated me with the utmost in dignity as well as using a variety of methods to get me to the point that I no longer have tumors on my liver and kidneys, and while my pancreas still has tumors, they have diminished in size, based on the chemotherapy regiment I will probably need to be on for the foreseeable future.
I was initially staged at 1.5 after 7 years of having Chronic Pancreatitis. I'll be honest. I thought I was on the waiver wire early on since the findings that there were tumor masses on the other organs I mentioned, was very unsettling.
I have been lucky to not have required radiation like your dear friend, and God Bless her. Indeed, her's is an inspirational story, and I am 100% committed to the outlook which was presented to me just a week or so ago.
Basically, my oncologist told me that he sees a chance for a "100% remission" and while this could have been caught earlier, I am very, very blessed. I wholeheartedly believe that I will be another "success" story, much like your friend.
I have all of the guys on this board, whose outpouring of love, concern, and support, has contributed mightily in this challenge. You are all my family--which is quite small, now, yet I have a circle of hope in some very dear friends here as well as in my off-line life. I have my daughter back living with me, and although she is a PITA (pain in the A$$), she gives me a reason to do everything I have had to do e.g. stop smoking, start moving my old carcass around the neighborhood, and stop drinking coke--which is very much tied into the family of carcinogenic agents which have been in my life for a very long time.
I cannot tell you what you kind words mean to me, and thank you for including me in your thoughts. I know that my comrades here, have truly been there for me in so many ways, and I just feel such a resurgence coming in--just like our Knicks!
Bless you, Iggy.

As you probably remember, I speak from the heart and I try to say good things if I can. With you it's not a stretch or a dificult thing to do. How long since you stopped smoking? How has that been for you?

Iggy...
You were always a favorite poster of mine on AOL and you always combined your Knick acumen with class, dignity, and respect. I appreciate your kind words and concern, and while I have not been on the board lately, it is only because of the 'Bockers' schedule, LOL!
Stopping smoking was relatively easy, based on the diagnosis received in May 2010. I have been a heavy smoker for 45 years, and to date, I still crave smokes, but the cravings pass rather quickly. I have had a lot of support in this, as my lady friend has joined me in this.
As I am sure you and your dear friend may know, cigarettes are very addictive. While the physical withdrawal was relatively smooth sailing, psychologically, it is something that remains in my head every day...But, if I smoke again, that will be a death sentence, since I have already beaten up my body enough for two or three life-times.
It's now time to do healthy things. ; )
