If they "truly know" they are still free to be contrarians and fools, so long as they understand they will necessarily have to accept the consequences. Kind of like smoking, I guess. I haven't been following the Gruden story. Safe to say I don't need to burrow into the details of yet another racist, homophobic, misogynist scandal involving another privileged white male from the Boomer generation. But yes he is *a* poster child for that generation, and a part of The Problem. That said, while the internet can serve to expose the misdeeds, the nasty thoughts, and the dark underbelly of people mired spiritually in our horrible history on the one hand... on the other hand it can also promote and perpetuate foolishness, some of that foolishness metastasizing into violence and chaos. What may be worst of all, Gates: the Internet seems to either destroy critical thought or engender the opposite of critical thought. I *golf-clap* Kyrie for spending a teensy-weensy fraction of his multi-generational wealth (he has earned so far $160,000,000 in his NBA career and another $18,000,000 per year in endorsements) on several worthy causes. That's a whole lot of zeroes, bruv. [Luke 21:1-4 comes to mind.] But that doesn't cancel out what potential harm he is doing as a conspiracy theorist, along with many others addled by the internet. What to make of this: "secret societies are administering vaccines in a plot to connect Black people to a master computer for a plan of Satan." [Ironically I got this quote from the Wiki article on Irving just now.] This is the kind of crazy shit that Kyrie "I'm the smartest guy in the room" Irving is ingesting. I am gonna let this go after this post as there is no chance you or I could alter each other's views on this in the slightest But i have a problem with "contrarians and fools". If a healthy young person decides not to get the vaccine that makes them a fool. OK. Again I state that most athletes would not have taken the vaccine if not forced to financially. All fools? Some people dont trust the vaccines long term. Fools? Johnson and Johnson cant even make baby powder . Some vaccines in different parts of the world have been proven to be unsatisfactory. You can "golf clap" Kyrie if you want but he did something. Finally the concept of a citizen balancing his personal freedom with the overall societal benefit is QUAINT. Citizen of where? Voltron? Certainly not in the land of insurrection, and barbarianismBut your previous post you said "if they truly know." In this case I will merely assume you mean that "to truly know" is to know that the vaccine works *sufficiently enough* to (a) hinder the spread and (b) to greatly ameliorate the symptoms were one to catch the virus. If this is what you mean, and I do hope it is, then yes, a man who knows these are facts and decides not to participate is indeed a contrarian and fool. We're talking pandemic here, not merely flu season. Because everyone is affected in a pandemic it calls for civic virtue, social responsibility, doing the right thing, anything having to do with One and Many. Pandemics and insurrections are apples and oranges, Gates. You do have to fight insurrection and barbarism with something, presumably the Law, however slow. Civic virtue is not the remedy to insurrection here but rather a preventive measure that every child's education should have. Ideally. Civic virtue as an idea and ideal is forgotten but not dead. Was Kyrie's motivation behind his philanthropy not sourced in civic virtue? If not then what was his source?

Just when you thought Ben Simmons held the moral high ground versus Kyrie he gets thrown out of practice for refusing to participate in drills. With that ejection and subsequent one game suspension goes any hope of Philly fixing their Ben problem. It is clear he is back to collect paychecks and not to do the adult and mature thing of just playing ball for the team that holds his contract. Reportedly when told to go home by Doc Rivers the petulant one just dropped the ball and left without a word. I'm imagining he got what he wanted while sending a clear signal to the Sixers they have not yet cleared stormy waters till they trade Simmons. Ironically his value slips even further with this latest escapade.
Glad Ben and Kyrie are not our problems. What they have can't be fixed and both are getting to the point where their value on the court maybe superseded by the dissension they bring in the locker room. This is especially true of Simmons who has major flaws in his game and its not liked by his teammates. Kyrie remains one of the NBA's most dynamic scorers at all three levels and for now KD and Harden are still on his side.
Should be fascinating to watch what happens with the NBA's version of one of those goofy reality shows. Did either Ben or Kyrie date a Kardashian?

Ben did date a pseudo "Kardashian". She now dates Devin Booker instead. Ben is trying the James Harden active cancer approach to get out of town

Ben is trying the James Harden active cancer approach to get out of town Let's face it the young man is losing at the game of life. One wonders who his consigliere is. This situation in Phillie lies somewhere between tragedy and farce at this point. The finger pointing a-goin' on is pure theater and that sadly includes Coach at this point, and Coach has been my guy for a long time. Meanwhile Kyrie is cooking something up as we speak-- jealous for the attention no doubt.
