Have to continue to respectfully disagree with you Bill. Two of the three teams still alive came out of nowhere to be contenders this year, why can’t that be the Knicks next year? The Hawks are right there and we finished ahead of them this year! If they’re still playing right now, that could easily be us and that’s THIS year’s flawed team! Imagine if we added an elite player to the team we had this year. And with Giannis’ injury we’d probably be heading to the finals right now to play Phoenix. If these elite players can be had via trade or free agency we need to make our move now. There’s no way I sit around for years and wait on a Luka Doncic. The Mavs will offer him a super max and if he doesn’t want to be there they’ll trade him to another team that will offer him the super max. And do you think Mark Cuban wants to see him with the Knicks? He’d trade him within the division first! Let’s go all in right now with your plan as the backup plan if Rose can’t get an elite player. As those two buzzards said as they waited for something to die and nothing would, “fuck it. Let’s go kill something!”

As those two buzzards said as they waited for something to die and nothing would, “fuck it. Let’s go kill something!” Both of the teams that came out of nowhere had superstar level players. Put Trae Young on the Knicks and we are playing for the NBA Championship.
It should be noted that Milwaukee and Phoenix didn't have to sell the farm to get their players. Giannis, Ayton and Booker are drafted stars. Middleton was traded after his rookie year and give credit to Milwaukee for recognizing his talent. The trade to get Jrue Holiday was a little pricey (2 firsts, Eric Bledsoe and RJ Hampton) but not overwhelmingly so. The Chris Paul trade was equitable (a first round pick, Ricky Rubio and Kelly Oubre and 2 guys I never hear of) and IMHO a gamble. That paid off.
My point is there is no easy path to get the Knicks to the next level. Megastar trades cost and unlike you and others I can wait a couple of years, build up the war chest and let our young players get better. I feel this way because I don't think we have seen anywhere near the best of RJ Barrett and Mitch Robinson. I honestly think both these guys can approach the level of play of Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. Now add Randle plus the right free agent or a smart trade plus Derrick Rose and how far away are the Knicks?
Not as far as some might think.
